Harman P68-My Quote for unit and Install

Our Harman 52i heats 2300 sq ft remarkably well so I wouldn't see why a higher BTU stove wouldn't heat a smaller space. I guess it really depends on how your house is laid out. We burned 3.5 tons this year out of the 4.5 tons I bought. Ill be buying 4 more this year to give me 5 tons for next burning season. Buy more than you think you will need, hard to find pellets in the winter months.

Did you burn using room temp or stove temp and what temps did you get to in the lower areas vs the upper areas? I burn a Harman Accentra in my lower level and a Lopi Leyden on my main floor and easily burn 7 tons. I would like to see how others are getting through a winter with under 4 tons. Thanks in advance.

We used room temp auto the entire season. Temps on the first floor were 75-76 and the 2nd floor was 72-73. We have a newer house built in 2000 with a good layout for heat distribution (open concept and centrally located stairway to the 2nd floor helps a lot I believe). The only thing we have is a ceiling fan in the stove room (living room) that remains on 24/7 on medium speed in reverse to help move the air. Also remember I am from Southern Maryland, it gets a lot colder for a longer period of time where you live in CT. We had a cold winter this year but we don't see the kind of temps that you guys do, at least not for an extended period of time.
Our electric only turned on once this winter and that was when we were in Jamaica for a week! $115 electric bill in the middle of winter is a big relief after the $500+ bills we were getting last year and freezing our asses off with electric heat.

You may want to think about the Selkirk Direct Temp (DT)
You only need one hole in the side of the house. Not only does it make the stove 10% more efficient but with the vacuum cleanout Super Easy to keep clean and less caked ash in the burnpot!

we paid 5,000.00 for a Harman P61A Which included install, exhaust and OAK, MetalTrim Kit, floor pad...November 2013............

Lets dissect it a bit....

*Will it heat our home?

Depends on may aspects, most important is how well it's insulated and how good the windows and doors are sealed. All stoves are space heaters, not central heating appliances (unless it's a ducted pellet furnace) so don't expect whole house even heat because it's not gonna happen.

*How many tons (of pellets) should I buy for a Michigan winter?....Plus Number 3....

Another crapshoot. I had to think about where Sunfield was (been trough it before). If I were you, I'd take a hard look around and go to the local co-op and arrange for some field corn to get delivered and build yourself a corn crib. Your Harman will run corn and pellets and corn is a better fuel, especially when mixed with pellets 50-50.

I'm in Michigan too, a bit farher south, but I average around 5 ton of pellets if I run straight pellets and 2 ton if I mix 50-50 or 4 ton of corn is I run straight corn (my stove can run any which way I want to depending on fuel cost.....) I don't know of anyone who delivers pellets in Michigan, bulk or bagged. I pick up my own from either my local co-op (they sell pellets and corn) or the local TSC and haul my own (5 ton) on my gooseneck and offload them with my own forklift.... I'm a farmer too.

I have corn delivered 1000 bushel at a time for my stove and my cattle....

Your Harman won't put out nearly the BTU's the Hot Blast will, but then, you don't have to chop and split wood either. You still have to handle bags and fill the stove and clean it out.

BTW, is that the dealer in Big Rapids or Grand Rapids?

Thx. Yes, CT is a bit colder than Maryland. That helps explain it.

I am doing a two story 2,350 SQ FT area of my home with one P68. It does a very good job but results can a will vary depending on floor plan and home layout among other issues. Basically the stove is $4,000. I am a contractor so I installed mine. Altogether I had about $4,700 into the whole deal with vent pipe, OAK, wall thimble etc;

So the way I see it you are paying $700 bucks for the delivery and install. Not real bad but then again that buys you a few tons of pellets also. Installing one is easy if you are handy and there is all kinds of help and info here free of charge. It is what you feel comfortable with both in the wallet and your sweat equity.

Can you give some details other than an updated farm house. My place has an open floor plan which helps. Many heat more with this stove but results vary. As for the stove itself they are wonderful. Low maintenance and run themselves.

Are you selling the appliance or candy coating the fact that no stove runs itself without proper and timely maintenance and a good cleaning regimen. You (and I) know no stove is plug and play and that attitude winds you up on here with issues and a cold abode..........

They are all wonderful (when working correctly) and a royal PITA when not.

Yes they do need regular cleanings and stuff but for the ost part my P68 does run itself other than a quick daily scrape and dumping pellets into it.

same here.... scrape each day....dump pellets.
do cleaning every 2 weeks..that's about it...
