I have been told these stoves have been discontinued by Travis Industries (ironically after reading about how great they are?). Does anyone have an idea if there are still new units around anywhere? I am in Central NY.

Just shopping for first pellet stove. Heated with wood stoves for 35 years, looking for main/auxillary heat for 2000 Sq. Ft.

Love mine as well. I know a guy in Maine had a never used 2008 broiwn enameled unit for sale about a month ago. It was in his office and he was selling it. Check around your craigslists ads.

Looks like a good deal, and a good deal further than I can go to get it!

Did have some luck today. Found a NEW Lopi Leyden ($3000), a used Avalon Arbor,2011, ($1500) a new Harmon Accentra $3160 and some other stuff I wasn't interested in. Not bad for first day of shopping. Right noe the Avalon is the choice but I will not see it until Saturday (cash in hand). Any thoughts anyone....?

Don't be short on time when buying a used stove. Make sure you see, and hear, it run through ALL its functions before pulling any money out of your pocket even if it's being sold by a dealer.

Very sound advice Bkins . She said the 4 year old Avalon Arbor was still installed but hasn't been run since last October when her husband suddenly passed and she decided she couldn't lug the pellet bags around. I will have to convince her to let me fire it up or the new Lopi Leyden for twice the money plus tax may become a better choice..?

The 4 year old Lopi Arbor (Lopi Leyden clone) would be my vote if you can get it running. Good luck.

Hello
The used Avalon is the best buy because like a new car, after a day of using a brand new stove it becomes a used stove and looses half it's value!

If the stove is a good stove that is durable with a good service record, it does not matter if it is brand new or not!

My 2 Harman P61a-2 are approx 10 years old!

SO my wife and I are going to crank up the Avolon Arbor tomorrow morning. I have never run one before so I am down loading the manual and taking some notes. Just want to get it up to heat so that the convection fan and feed are running and then shut it down. Next issue is if we buy it any tips on moving it, like how much weight we can shed before we lift it.

You can probably remove many of the parts inside to bring the weight of it down. Ash pan can come off too but be careful to wear gloves. Some parts of these stoves have sharp edges. When I moved my Lopi Leyden it took four guys to safely move it. You want to get it in a open truck or van for ease of mobility and best placement.

We moved our Elena (minus the ceramics) up the outside stairs with 2 of us and a hand-truck. Check on how difficult it will be to remove from the sellers home ... Good luck on the hunt!

You need an Escalara like my Stair Cat
It lifts 700 lbs with the electric winch and climbs stairs automatically! The strap is like a seat belt that snaps back in when you are done!
