Hearth flush with wood - K 0.84 for 1/2" ?

I want my hearth flush with my wood floor.
Floor protection calls for 1/2" of 0.84 K factor.

Can I use 1/2" of Micore 300 Board and then 1/4" thick slate tiles to get pretty close to surrounding wood floor thickness?
 
Micore is much too soft and spongy to directly put tiles on it and there would be no bond with the thinset. Micore needs at least 1/2" of cement board on top. Instead, consider going with 2, 1/2" sheets of Durock NexGen. To make it flush you might need to remove the subfloor in that area then block in some 3/4" plywood flush with the top of the joists or cut down the tops of the joists 3/4" to lower the sub-floor in that area. Or dont go flush and trim it out with a 1/4" ramped picture frame trim.
 
I was reading the manual incorrectly. These are additional clearances for rear exit. Top exit is just "non combustible". I think I'm off the hook. Asking Regency for clarification.
