So i found a good deal on a used chimney liner, 200 for 25'. Does this seem safe to use? I would obviously run a brush through it to clean it out before installing. Do these liners get brittle after being in one position for a while under heat, or would it be ok? I also think i would wrap it in insulation as it is going to go in a chiminey on the exterior of my house.

Frankly I wouldn't do it. I have two of the Dura Vent liners and they are fine but they are a really light weight liner. I wouldn't use them if they were used. Too many ways they could be damaged un-installing or re-installing.

Just me.

It might be fine i would look it over very closly though to make sure it is not kinked or dented it is risky like bb said it is very light metal

Good idea. I just looked at the cl ad. He just has a piece of sheet metal he used for a top plate and a six dollar galvanized vent cap he bought at the hardware store. No way, no how.

I think if it is near by and you are planning on useing something that light weight anyway it is worth looking at it but look everything over very closely

but yes you are correct you absolutely should insulate it

Idk, but I wouldn't pay more than $50 for it and only if it's in good shape, otherwise go new....

You are going to do the same amount of work to install a used liner, and it will be dirty. Then once you get it installed you will always question its use. Piece of mind about safety of you liner is priceless
