New 555 arrived today

I ordered a Husky 555 way back on 4/17 and I finally saw it show up today. There was a communication problem that delayed delivery by about a week but it showed up out of nowhere today. When I got back from eating Mexican on Cinco de Mayo it was sitting on the front stoop. I never did get the UPS tracking number I was promised but I did get the saw and 3 quarts of fuel for a bit over $560 so I guess that is the price I had to pay for the deal. With the fuel on the same receipt I will be able to register it for the extended warranty.
When I pulled it from the box I had one heck of a time getting the bar cover off and back on with the bar in place. The instructions told me to release the chain brake before removing the cover but that simply did not work. No matter what I did the brake was grabbing the clutch. I finally got the cover off and then had to manually release the brake using a large screw driver to pry the brake latch. Let's hope this is not going to be an ongoing issue although I could now do it far faster than I did today. Learning happened.
The saw is all put together now with packing material removed and the chain has been properly tensioned so next up is fueling and B&C oil. It is dark out now so that will need to wait for morning. No way will I gas it up and not run it. You may be able to tell but I am quite excited about my new toy.

It's a great saw. I accidentally cut into my 555 chain break lever the other day (with another saw) after getting it some what pinched. Be careful!

The only break in advice they give is "Avoid running at a too high speed for extended periods during the first 10 hours." on page 18 of the manual. I assume this means not to run it too long WOT outside of a cut. Obviously you never use part throttle so a high speed for cutting with the chain buried in the wood better not be a problem.
What I do not see is advice on how to get the AT set right by burying the saw in wood for x amount of time or for so many cuts. I do see that talked about a lot in on-line locations though. Is that something I should do?

I didn't do anything special. Go out and cut, forget about the auto tune. The saw will loosen up some after a few tanks of fuel but it's hardly noticeable.
 
I brought a 555 home last night. My dealer stressed that I should warm it up for a minute or two and then run it in wood WOT for at least 5 min. He says that it needs at least that long to calibrate and if it goes back to idle before 5 minutes it will default back to factory calibration.

I've got a big log about 15 ft. In length that begs to have some noodling done on it. Dealer thought that would be a good way to get things set properly. He also said not to force the saw and be sure as to not overheat it.

Thanks Fishnuts. That is similar to the things I have seen on line but somehow does not show up in the manual. I bought some fuel to extend my warranty so I will probably use some of that to do that first run. I have lots of rounds about twice as long as I need them. There are certainly enough to keep my saw buried for 5 minutes. The rounds are stacked right now and I should be able to just start with them in the stack and just cut straight down through the stack. With outside air temps near 90ºF I will need to watch the engine temperature, and my own.
 
Oh don't worry about break-in just run the piss out of it while cutting as many told me when I asked the same questions before.;) Heck you might even remember that thread yourself. So how did it go today, did you get a chance to run it?
 
The fact that it has to be at WOT for 5 minutes in wood for calibration is odd to me but I do not own one and really do not know a lot about the software used.

I have cut some pretty big rounds and have noodled them down and I have never had one continuous cut last 5 minutes.

So if the AT is self calibrating all the time then would it not take a shorter time then 5 minutes.
Maybe someone can straighten me out here.

Great saw's them 'Triple Nickels'

I got one used about three year ago and it performs well. Run 91 gas. I have 20" & 24" bar's.

The only problem I had was starting the dam thing. No instructions with a used unit.

It's very light on fuel, one tank gets me a load.

I giggle every time I see something labeled "Farm.......". Some of the most beat up crappy tools I have ever seen came off of a farm.;lol;lol;lol
 
The bar does not come in the box. It is added by the dealer and mine was packed in the shipping box along with a loop of Husky chain. The specific bar you get depends on that dealer and what terms you reach. The 555 is listed as a pro saw by Husky but does not come with a bar or a chain. Mine came with the bar you see and an H80-72 full chisel chain. Husky does sell other bars for that saw in the same size and gauge but the others cost more, at least in the after market arena. I would have preferred an H51-72 semi-chisel chain but nobody asked me. They sent me exactly what they said they would. I noticed, when I was taking that picture, that the chain needs to be tensioned too. It was loose on the bottom of the bar.

I think I like the old style caps better. I opened them today just to have a look inside and the flip up handle felt flimsy to me.
 
Did you get the saw from Bailey's?
 
Got it on e-bay from a dealer in New Jersey.
 
Oh right on. I was just thinking Baileys because of the problem with the order you mentioned earlier. I had problems with my order and it cost them overnight shipping and they still beat my cheapest deal by $40. There is something to be said by buying from your local dealer, but with a savings of $200 I bought online.
