Let me start out with this, I love burning wood pellets and the idea that I am heating my home using something that is carbon neutral instead of oil or gas, etc, is fantastic!

These prices are absolutely absurd and I feel like I am being taken for a ride. The absolute cheapest pellet I can in the area that is decent is priced at 270 a ton.

The hassle of buying, getting the pellets home, stacking them, cleaning the stoves, dealing with the inevitable dust that gets on everything from cleaning the stoves.....is becoming totally unsustainable at these prices. I feel like and correct me if I am wrong that, that pre buying in the off season generally was 250-290/300 ish depending on how picky you were with what you burned. This feels like another scam to lock us in at low prices and then keep the poor, well poor.

What used to seem like a sustainable/viable option to buying oil, is slowly losing its cool factor.

Rant over.

Thanks maybe I will call them. lol. I am just not happy about this price gauging!

I'm with you. If it gets to a point that the cheapest pellet I can find is $280/ton, I'm going back to oil.

When you add in the delivery, stacking, bringing them in, cleaning the stove and house....it gets to be not worth it.

Home and Hearth in Hampton was selling them for 280ish. Not sure that special is still on.

Then there is the $100 delivery charge - but they don't deliver any farther west than Manchester. Over $100 to rent a truck or van (oh sure the rental is cheap - it is the mileage that gets you), so not worth it for me.

Will probably stick with HD pellets anyway since they were better than pre-paid pellets at the local dealer. However, even if I did have to pay $300-$350 per ton, still cheaper for me since I'm on propane.

I will probably also go with HD pellets unless they are North Americans. To ashy for my liking.

Saw an ad for U-Haul at $19.95 for either a half-day or day, can't recall. Didn't check any mileage figures in that.

HD pellets,$259, VT Wood Pellets, $260, for a $1.00 more per ton I bought the VWP.
Yeah, HD will likely drop down to $239 closer to the fall and do a sale to bring it down to $219. But for $1, agreed that VWP's are much better.

I think that is $332 delivered...but still high...

That was a delivered price, but yes high. I feel like all of these smaller retail places wouldn't be jumping in the wagon to sell pellets if they were not making a killing off them.

Yeah, rented a mini-van a couple of weeks ago - cost me a total of $89 (not including gas) because of mileage charges (<90 miles put on). If you look, they put an asterisk beside the price per day. And, it doesn't matter if it is for 4 hours or 24 hours - same price.

332 a ton, Ill just burn Propain. Doesnt matter what pellet, My cut-off for Pellets being cost-effective is 320 a ton.

If you live within a reasonable distance of Milford, MA I have a flat bed trailer that can haul 3 tons at a time. All it will cost you is gas and perhaps lunch.

A very generous offer! ;)

Dan

You won't think so if I arrive in your driveway and patiently wait while you unload the pellets one bag at a time since I have no pallet jack or ramp on which to roll it.
