You at least need an owner's manual.
I read it and there's no way I would ever clean it with soapy water. That is absurd. I do make sure the filter is dry (almost) prior to installation. After all, what is happening to the air that passes through? It immediately gets mixed with gas, then goes into the cylinder.

BTW, the manual also says that the flock filter is for use in dry dusty conditions. I never cut in those conditions but after more than a few carb clean-outs where I found sawdust chunks, it's the best filter to keep crud out of the carb. I still find some, but much less. Personally, I think the air filter design of Stihl is not nearly as good as it should be. There should be zero wood particles getting through.

The IPL and technical bulletins I have make no distinction based on tank vent type. There are two old-style filters and two new, but the differences are just filter media.
I believe if you change the vent and plug the hole for the intellicarb in the filter you can use the newer style filters. I have used some aftermarket filters on other saws and they work fine. AF filters are $6 OEM are $36. I am going to change mine I believe. I am really thinking on having this saw ported, if I do that I may change the tank to the lower vent instead of drilling this one. I have a MS440 but I am finding I use this saw for about 90% of my cutting as it is easier on me at the end of the day.

Nope its a black lever

Stihl flocked air filters? Blow them out from the inside with compressed air most of the time. If they are really dirty, wash them in Dawn dish soap after the compressed air and allow to dry. Well, that's what I do. Never had a problem.
