I have a 5700, this is my second year heating with it. I have a 1400 sq ft house that was designed by brain dead people. It is very cut up. A bear to heat. It is also very old with old windows. And it is drafty even after the plastic is up on the windows.lol.. I have no regrets in buying the stove. I used about 3 1/2 cord last year I know it is not much, but we had a fairly mild winter. I have been burning non stop for the last month here in ct.
It put's out the heat when it is called for. I also have the blower attchment , money well spent I think. Yes the glass gets dirty, big deal I don't care, I bought it to heat my home, not to look good, If I wanted something to look nice , I would have put in a fireplace...the glass was a bonus. When I fill it I can get 5-6 good med-high heating hrs out of it, if I damp it right down, I will have good coals even after 12 hrs, but like anything else, at that point no stove throws off a lot of heat when all damped down. If you are looking for a big stove you can't go wrong with the Quadrafire 5700..

My fathers old house was a larger ranch as yours. He ended up cutting in registers at both ends of the house that caused a convection (I believe) circuit between the upstairs and the downstairs. He used one above the stove going into the living room and two in both end bedrooms. Always was fairly even throughout the house and the downstairs wasnt overly hot except right near the stove.
