I decided that it would be nice to have a saw in the truck for emergency situations and for when I go up to a cabin in the Poconos to clear trails. I just purchased an 026 for this purpose but I like the saw so much I decided to make my ms180 my truck saw. Do any of you keep a saw in your vehicle or is it asking for trouble? I do keep it locked up in a storage box under a cover in the bed of my truck.

If your going to keep a saw in the truck at all times, make sure you don't leave fuel or bar oil in the saw, fuel will bleed through the carb, bar oil will vibrate out the oiler making a mess. Trust me I know from experience. I would buy one of those new premix cans of true fuel and a quart of bar oil and just keep it in the case of to the side. Also I would store the saw in a locking truck box.

I wouldn't keep a chain saw in passenger compartment - stinky, messy and unsafe (illegal ?). Also, not safe to cut alone with chain saw especially in remote areas.
Agree with kennyp2339, keep in truck box, and even then the bar oil will make a mess.

If just clearing trails, perhaps one of these might work well ? I keep these in my car for similar reasons.
Both have ti-edge razor teeth that cut efficiently, and surprisingly fast. The 21" Corona has the added benefit of offset raker teeth that permit easy removal of sawdust from the cut for cutting up to 14" diameter wood practically.

Everybody has one bouncing around in the back up here, some bungee them in some don't. I don't know anyone that doesn't have their saw fueled and ready to go. Kenny is right about fuel and oil leaking around your pickup, but it comes with the territory.

When I put it in the lock box I took the bar and chain off and put them in a trash bag and then put the power head in a seperate bag. I'll check it in a week and see how much leaked in the bag. A also packed a bag w/ premixed fuel, bar oil, a pair of gloves, and a chain sharpener/file. I can't remember what storm it was but I was detoured 5 times on my way to work and 2 of the detours I could have easily cut my way through.

I wanna say it's a saw not a gun but hey, if you feel the need to break it down then do so, I would carry it ready to go without gas and maybe a can of gas in the back..... But we are all different..... Better to have when needed than have not....... Keep cuttin......

I wanted to keep the bar on my saw but ran out of room in the lock box....unfortunately the only option.

I keep my 170 in the back seat of my work truck, no bar oil or gas in the saw but I have both in the bed of the truck. Just in case I come across a scrounge opportunity :)

Ash from Army of Darkness used a chainsaw against zombies....could happen :)
