I searched through here and I see conflicting experiences on using an UPC to clean generator power. I ask because I just came upon a generac 3500w generator that I'd like to use to power my santa fe during power outages. Are there any definitive UPCS that can charge off dirty power?

APC brand UPS will not run on dirty AC from a basic generator. I tried it with a 4.8kW Coleman contractor generator. Not sure about others. I now have a good quality Yamaha inverter generator and our CyberPower UPSs have no problem running with off that generator.

My APC XS1500 will run off my Honeywell generator just fine.

Good deal, sounds like it is putting out cleaner AC. What model Honeywell gen?

saw a Cyberpower 1500 pure syn wave upc on sale for $169 2 days ago on techbargains.com, now there's a 1000 model for $119

I picked up an old Champion Generator 2000 watt last year Plugged my Santa Fe into it with a surge protector, It run just fine hooked up to the generator.

Surge protectors don't care too much about dirty power as long as there aren't major transient spikes. Good to know the Santa Fe is tolerant. Our Quad 1200i ran fine straight off the old generator too.

I'll have to do a test run with with my surge protector. Good to see UPS may not b needed.

The purpose of a UPS is to provide power when the power goes out - I don't think it will clean the power? When it is being fed by power (either grid when the power is not out, or a generator), it will just pass through whatever power it is getting. And maybe some won't even do that by the sounds of it, if it isn't clean enough?

I would (and do) have a UPS regardless - to avoid a shutdown when the power goes out and give some time to get the gennie hooked up. Or maybe avoid dragging the gennie out all together if the outage isn't too terribly long and you can coast on the USP until then.

So, I've been trying to figure out the best thing for me and I'm uncertain what to do.

I have the following surge protector:Tripp Lite ULTRABLOK

I've been reading about UPS and Generators. I have a house hook-up with an outside plug for a generator. I plan on purchasing the generator in the next couple months - regardless of the pellet stove usage. At the same time, as a newer pellet stove owner, I'd love to be able to use the generator for my stove during these New England winter power outages. As my sig says, I have the GC60, wondering if the Generac GP series would be safe to run the stove off of? Do I need a UPS as well/instead? I'm uncertain the best way to go.

I purchased a refurb champion inverter generator. It was 359 with shipping I think. It's the 2k unit. 1.6kW continuos power.

I use a Line Conditioner. Size it for the stove load, Ran my Englander fine with no ill effects that Im aware of, for over 6 hrs. If your looking to setup a Pellet Stove friendly genny, just go with an inverter from the start. Their getting cheap enough these days. My genny is a Lincoln Ranger 250. It's a welder first, so power can be dirty as a land-fill....
