The 4 pins instead of the normal 2 could make it tougher to penetrate the wood.
 
Think I have this one with 2 pins. Works good. These cheap monitors are really only good for relative readings.
 
Then again, how much does it matter if the wood has a moisture content of 12 or 14%?or even 12 or 16.
 
It really dosen't - besides the quality of the reading is some what dependant on what was used for initial calibration. Universal thought is, if it registers under ( on a newly split face) 20% you should be good to go.
 
I know my cheap meter is off a bit but it really comes down to what works in your own stove/chimney combination. Agreed that if you are below 20%, you should be good but I would keep a note of what % on your own meter burns well and where to set the bar exactly.
 
I got mine at menards . Seems to work well. Don't they have a +/- % anyway. Paid like $ 10 for it
 
I got one off ebay looks like that. Was either $5-10?

It has 2 probes. And its just a fun tool...helps confirm its dry or tell you its not as dry as you thought.
