No sswp has then at 359!!! I got then at pellets r us in June they were running a special for 299. Now backup to 339

I'll burn oil, as long as it's near $2 a gallon, I have maybe 25 bags of mixed leftover's, might buy a ton if find a good deal, otherwise burn oil, i'm not like some here that seem to buy pellet's at any price to justify there stove purchase, my stove paid for it self long time ago.

There is more to it than the price for some folks. We enjoy burning them for multiple reasons....not depending on a product like oil that swings more than 100% in price in few short months of trading....

We are also burning something that is carbon neutral....not carbon that has been dragged from deep within the ground, of course I have my truck which runs on gas, I know but still less carbon.

We enjoy the fire and lite the stove provides!

dont want to burn pellet? Then why you hanging out in the pellet section of site!

I like the steady 24/7 heat that pellets provide...
my oil furnace is on/warm house/ off/ everything cool down/ rinse/lather /repeat...
my furnace would drink Oil like a Drunken Sailor if we tried to keep it at 73 like our pellet stove does for us so there goes any savings of lower priced heating Oil..>>

yes but that 73 is limited to one or two rooms, dont bullshit me, a space heater all it is, my small cape house can be 73 in livingroom where stove is and 63 or less next room over, I'm sick of it, and 73 is too hot

I gotta admit, I'm filling my oil tank up from almost empty and will be running the furnace at about 62 when we aren't home, then cranking up the pellet stove when we are home. My house is small enough to be able to do this.

It certainly isn't for everyone....

yes... never understand why the pellet stove complainers even come to this forum..there' NOT gonna change anyones mind usually on what they want to heat with.
should be on an oil or gas Furnace forum me thinks...
btw: I have a 6 degree variance in heat 3 rooms over from the stove for what it's worth..
how well or not the rooms are insulated play in there..
no way a deal breaker here..

Don't think they are being complainers, just being real. Everyone isn't in love with their pellet stove. I'm using whats most cost efficient to heat my home with, this year its not pellets. I have a fair amount of money wrapped up in my stove and venting but I'm not going to use it if it makes no sense. Think some people feel they have to use their pellet stove every year to justify the investment they have in it. My stove isn't going away just on vacation this year.

I think most of us here use oil. But a fart in the wind in the Middle East and we all know how much prices can rise for oil.

If it's cheaper using oil fine with me. My pellets are not going to get old.

Use what's best for you.

That's one of the things I love about my pellet boiler. Can't tell the difference between it and oil for heat. It heats multiple zones just like the oil boiler. That may be a negative for some though because it also doesn't have that wood stove ambiance.

It's definitely a trade-off. The finished part of the basement is cold as heck, though it's only a workshop and I can heat it as required. Same as I can heat extra bedrooms when my kids come over. Even though oil is 20% cheaper (per BTU output) than pellets now, I burned 5.4 tons last year even though the equivalent tons based on how much oil I (would have) used would have been 10.6. In other words, I use about half as many pellet BTUs than I did oil BTUs. But I did use 100 gallons of oil this past winter too. Even accounting for that and using latest oil ($2.40 in my rip-off area) and pellet (assuming $280/ton) prices, I still save $425 a year over oil alone AND the living room where I spend most of my time is several degrees warmer to boot. Not heating areas of the house that one does not inhabit is an issue for some, not for others.

i'm gonna use both oil and pellets.. the way i look at it if i use the oil boiler all by itself i'll use 100 gal.a month on a cold month...that's $189.99
if i use just pellets i'll use a bag and a half a day on a cold month...that's $292./ton for spruce points..

Just came from my local HD they had FSU for $269, which is what last year they were selling AWF White Pines, FSU is probably the best box store pellet you can burn for the money, If i can get 10% coupon and use the 5% lowes card discount I may buy a few ton's

As I've learned from you, and many others here, it's always good to have options, Pellet-King. If you can get them for that price now, I'd go for it.

Currently oil is at $1.899 per gallon. You're losing money burning pellets.

depends where u live...
Oil is not 1.89 gallon all up/down the Eastern Seaboard.. prices jump conciderable in New York, Pa, Del, Maryland'. Washington, Conn, etc..

Just cause oil is cheaper doesn't mean that your system is efficient at generation or circulating the heat. Stove in the right spot will generally kick a central systems butt 9 out of 10 times. Just sayin

Plus some of us may have older and maybe even over-sized boilers that burn at 65-75% efficiency. On a good day.

Here in New Hampster the average is a little over $2.50.......
So here, pellets would be around $23.50 vs. $26.00 per million btu. for oil..
Propane would be around $35
(based on NH averages)

I can't figure why prices in the Northeast remain stubbornly high compared to most other areas of the country. Some of the propane prices I see posted elsewhere are insane compared to here.
