Anyone price these out lately? Just curious what they run now...
Thanks...

Dan

Wonder how long those prices will last if pellets can't compete with propane and fuel oil this season?

Thanks...
A local dealer has them for 10% now...
Of course there is no listed price... I may call just for comparison..
4 grand sure is a lot of money...

Thanks again, Dan

Dan,
Four grand is a nice chunk of change without a doubt. When I was shopping for stoves I chomped at the bit for a long while and did oodles of research here and elsewhere. After purchasing my P68 I have no regrets whatsoever. Yes, the price tag is rough but the rewards are priceless at times. I really like mine a lot and very happy I decided to spring the big bucks. Good stoves are worth the extra investment in my opinion. Glad I went the route I did. I consider myself a lucky rookie in the fact I chose the P68 for my first pellet stove last October. I paid $4050 for mine last fall after the $100 rebate from Harman if that helps.

X2 but I made the mistake of spending $3500 for another brand then 3 years later had to upgrade to my Harman. ;-(
Lesson learned!

Trust me... I understand their quality...
I use a Harman Mark III coal stove that will last me until I die..
As much as I like pellets, I use them in my home shop, and I would use them in the house...
If I was without a stove.
But the coal is just so much cheaper, and I own the stove..
It would be tough to justify the 4 grand at this stage of my life.
The upkeep on the Mark is... Zero...
(But down deep.. I'd like a P68 as well!)

Why not buy a used one? With the price of pellets these days your gonna see a lot on Craigslist. I'm thinking about selling my p 61 and it's only a year old. No way in hell am I buying pellets at these prices when oil is so low

And what happens next year when oil shots for the moon ?
You going to lay out for a new stove ?;em

Home Depot garbage, what I burn, is at 299 a ton. Last year I bought them for 230. Pellet prices are not coming down due to European incentive to burn them. Oil on the other hand is forecasted to stay low for a while. A glut of oil and a shortage of pellets, it's that simple.

Paid 3,300 for mine from a out-of-garage dealer, guessing they don't mark up near as much.

Probably should have did the P61 as mentioned by Willy, but figured too much is better than not enough, of course it is also commonly -40 to -50F here in the winter.

Hello
Instead of buying 1 new P68, I bought 2 used P61s cheap that I upgraded to P61a stoves for less money!
Now I have a backup stove that will punch out another 61k BTUs if I need it or a spare part! ! !

Why not buy a used one?
Like I mentioned... I'm really not looking to buy one..
was just wondering how much they were up to.
I know they have always been high end.
Plus.. while I'm sure many here have had great luck with a used one, that is such
a small sampling of "used" bargains..
Most of the time, there is a reason. Unless I knew the seller well,
I'd buy new.

Why not keep it for when the day comes that oil jumps back up to near 4 bucks?

P68 it is then! its not the most popular stove in the line up so dealers usually order them in this deals may be harder to come by. Budget 4k
There are deals to be had if you are patient. Ive neen scouring craigslist since heating season ended. A lot of folkstrying to move their stoves but also asking crazy money. I didnt want to spend more than $2k for either a p61 or a p68. Finslly scored a 3yr old p68 for $1900 with complete pipe setup and 28 bags of pellets

I'm trying to find a used 61 that someone will ship to me. I'm even willing to pay a finders fee.

That's a great deal! The 68 is just a heat throwing beast and that is why I bought one. It does the job on the cold long spells without a problem. It may use a few more pellets but not much more than others IMO from seeing how many tons others use in a season and how they heat or where the temps stay. I know I could get by on 5 tons per season but the wife likes it 75* around the clock all winter. I used 6 tons and dipped slightly into the 7th last season and it stayed brutally cold here all winter with numerous low temp records beaten. Believe me there was ZERO pellet conservation here. That's going to change this fall.

How can anyone sit in the living room with AC set at 73* with a blanket on when it's 90 plus outside and humid as hell? Same chic that bundles up in winter when it's 75* in here. CRAZY! I should start calling her Linus the Peanuts blanket toter.

I will also agree my PC45 runs just a bit quieter or so it seems than the 68. The PC45 and P61 are on the same platform and basically the same stove in many ways. They are not the same but they are.

Last thought: I scored the 45 that was in great shape except it needed a thorough cleaning for $1,600 cash. Guy was asking $2K then dropped down just a little to $1,900. That was a good deal and around here to see a used Harman for sale (any model) is very, very rare. From what I've concluded is that once someone owns a Harman they keep them for the long haul. Certainly people move and lifestyles change and some choose to sell but not often here. I also drove a couple of hours into Ohio to buy the PC45.

I doubt oil prices will last. I just read a article this morning about the oil companies loosing more money and now laying off more workers because of the PPB. One way or the other oil is going to rise again and it will be just as un affordable as before.

Its weird where I live the prices for pellets have not changed much, still costing me 250 a ton for 3 years straight.

You have to beat these energy co.'s at their own game. I have set myself up to where I have three options for heating. I don't really care how I stay warm as long as I am getting the best deal at that time and what my options are. Bet your ass I'd heat with oil IF it was cheaper. Common sense. I'd also hold onto my wood and pellet stoves because nothing lasts nor stays consistent in regards to home heating.

If I could heat for a season cheaper with pellets then pellets it is. Wood all said and done is my least expensive since I have all I need on my property. That said, it IS worth it for me to pay for pellets simply because of the time and effort I have to invest in wood processing.

If I can heat a cheaper way ALL THINGS CONSIDERED then bet on it because that's how I will be heating. Now if pellet pricing gets real silly I am back to wood or ???? Also realize cheaper isn't always better. It is what makes the most economical sense and provides the best quality of life. Free time is harder and harder to come by these days for me. So is money.
