At those prices, there is absolutely no reason to pre-buy unless you thing vendors will run out of pellets, which they won't. That added to the fact that other heating sources are less expensive this year, like propane, NG and oil, who cares if they run out. That selling carrot rings hollow this year.

Run out or not, I can tell you positively, that the prices delivered to us
are going up.. not down... we have already got that news.
And... we are limited to what we can get from one supplier...

That could be one reason, not saying it is, why you see so much stock
at some of the BBS... I think they do not want to get caught with their
pants down like last fall...

Hey Dan,

Somehow I knew I'd hear from you. I agree that prices are higher from the distributors and totally understand why. I wonder if they guessed right, meaning there will be just as much demand thereby justifying the price increase, or will demand slacken due to other heating sources dropping in price this year. I guess we'll see soon enough. There's really no price incentive to pre-buy so personally, I'll start looking in September. If they are hard to come by, then oil will suffice at the present prices quite nicely.

Million dollar question, IMO..
The thing is, the cost of producing the pellets hasn't gone down, just because
heating oil is cheaper... It's actually "up"..
Less raw materials, and it takes huge amount of power to make them.
Shipping has not dropped either..
So the oil situation makes it difficult for heating consumers, to decide, but it hasn't helped
the pellet industry at all..

I will never ever burn North American pellets again. PERIOD. I don't care if oil is $4 a gallon and NA is the only pellets available. I will never buy NA.

Shipping costs should have dropped with the price of diesel way down..., I understand nobody likes to pass the savings on, only if price of diesel goes up will it be passed on!!

I hear ya, Jack.
We talk to the truckers quite a bit, and obviously, the fuel is just one factor in their operation.
The cost of the rig maintenance like regular servicing, tires, brakes, big repairs, you know.. it's just huge money.
Insurance, tractor or trailer replacements, etc. again.. huge money.
And, many times they do not go up, when fuel goes up, they will eat some of it, just like we eat
an increase in pellets at times..

Most truckers just buy themselves a job, when they buy a rig.
Not many get rich... From what we see here.

Seeing that north Americans and garbage Supremes are selling at 279 in my area of ma, I was lucky this year. I got 3 ton of blazers df at pre buy in june for 299 per ton at pellets r us in acton. Now they are up around 329-359 per ton depending on where you buy. With oil being so low I may just use half of my 3 ton for the coldest stretches and use oil in between. Good to have options this year. Now I am just hoping the blazers show up at a home depot near me mid season for 229 like the stories I have read on here!

I just picked up 1 Ton of Hamers re bagged as Agway for $299. Lowes has Green Team for $350. Page has Dry Creek for $350. Getting close to relying on oil again.

I hear ya. I have burned Dry Creek many times. Probably on par with NEWP. Never paid more than $275 for them at Agway.

I think your right Dan, wishful thinking from Taxachusetts

Lowes in Middletown NY has the Green Team Platinums for 312 a ton (Item #: 153769) the NA's are at 269 (overpriced) they had 1000 + bags on hand of the GT's (until I bought 2.5 tons anyway)... 5% off with Lowes credit card, plus 5% off when buying a ton or more, vets get 10% + the 5%,as do employees at Lowes brings them to 265.5 a ton still high but I am doubting we will see prices going down this year .. so for me bird in hand etc etc
