I was just told about Roxul insulation, to be used instead of fiberglass, and have just started reading about it. Apparently it's nearly the same cost, better R-value, and, less crap in the air/your lungs/skin when installing it, and much higher melting temp. It really seems like a superior alternative. Have any of you used it between studs, or between walls (stacked batt to batt)? If I can find it in Frb, I am seriously considering using it. I HATE installing fiberglass, and one post really slammed the efficacy of thicker fbrglass. Any experiences w/ Roxul? thanks. j

Roxul is pretty common here in Ont. Pricing is about the same.
I've used it a lot in my current house and like it WAY better than fibreglass.
You cut the bats to size with a bread knife - no hassling with dull razor knives...makes for a clean install.
High temp + water resistant + easy cutting = Way Better

Wear a mask handling the stuff. It is very short fibers and breathing it isn't a good thing for sure. It is what I used for the top five feet of my chimneys and on top of my block off plate.
And I never did get the stuff out of that pair of coveralls. I ended up throwing them away. They were like putting on sandpaper after the fibers got into them.
As one installer of the stuff told me "That stuff is nasty.".

Glad to know ALL that about Roxul. I wonder why we don't seem to have it in AK. It ain't like we never insulate a house or anything.
