Another newbie question......why do they recommend that mobile homes have fresh air kits and regular homes do not need it? I have a 2100 sq ft manufactured home on a crawl space, would I need the fresh air kit when installing a free standing stove?

It is not a recommendation but an actual code requirement. The explanation is that mobile homes are more tightly built and therefore combustion air should be drawn from the outside. The stove also needs to be bolted to the floor. Look for mobile home approved stoves and follow your local building codes or your home insurance may not cover you should anything happen. An OAK also adds some efficiency so there is not really a drawback anyway.

Thanks for the explanation. I would of thought just the opposite and that a stick built house would be tighter.

New NFPA standard 211 Standard for Chimneys, Fireplaces,. Vents, and Solid Fuel-Burning Appliances I believe an outside air kit is required for all solid fuel burning appliances - both pellets and wood stoves.

Also check with your insurance. I had major issues with Amfam that are leading me to switch to a different company.
