Anyone Else..................

Oil by me in SE MA is about $1.85 a gallon, I will use the oil heat and pellets as I have 5 tons in the basement. I don't mind burning the oil if its cheaper.

Ageed, but the difference is most abandoned oil when all the gouging and outrageous pricing took place. Now those same people are embracing the pellet industry for doing the same thing..

Pellets feel warmer to me. I am putting on an in-law addition that will have only my new Absolute 43 and mini splits available.

I'm sure my daughter and her husband (who are taking over the main house) will take advantage of oils lower pricing while it lasts.

that's what im thinking about doing. i can buy coal at $240 bulk or $280 bagged and i think at those prices pellets start to look really sad. not as much heat and very expensive

Its a none factor here I dont have a furnace anymore.

I'm disappointed that big box store pellets have jumped $50-$80 a ton but the only pellets available are the absolute junk. Ton after ton of Green supreme at Home Depot, Lowes and Tractor Supply. I really don't understand what is going on this year, there is really no explanation I can think of other than pellet suppliers are looking for the top end price where customers will still buy pellets, and maximize profit.

The absolute volume of pellets Newp (green supreme) are selling to the big box stores must get the stores a fairly sizable discount, so where is the reasoning for such massive price increases?

I think the prices will drop, most people that heat with pellets also have a second heating source. I have an oil furnace that is rather efficient ( 5 years old ) and I know with oil at $1.74 I will be heating with mainly oil this year. I have a stash of 5.5 tons of pellets and will probably use the Pellet stove when we are home all weekend or have company for the ambiance but I think the majority of people will heat with whatever is cheaper! This will drive the prices down, don't get me wrong I'm all for being "green" and using better choices but when I can heat my house for $175 a month versus $300+ for pellets ( about a bag and a half a day ) I'm burning oil!
