pellets going up because of shipping??????

Feeling the Heat
Called my local Ace and they have Ligs for 260 going up to 275 in September....I asked why and he says shipping.....I said that makes no sense since gas is really cheap! I did use a 5 off coupon so got them for 255 for the same ones I paid 240 a few months back! Crazy!!!

Fuel prices go up-shipping costs go up.

My opinion- GOUGING!

Gouging themselves out of business!
 
When I went to the front register for the first ton, the accepted the coupon. When I got placed on the waiting list for the second ton, they didn't accept it when they came in....go figure...lol
 
Electricity has gone up in big part because the EPA has been making it hard to burn cheap coal and several plants have had to shut down and newer plants are burning NG.
Lot of juice needed to grind wood and squeeze out pellets.
 
I thought shipping was free if you spent $35. Is it really not free???
 
Even so, a "drop" in fuel prices results in higher shipping costs??
On the flip side, a "rise" in fuel prices and the price of goods skyrockets!
You need to consider all of the aspects of the shipping and as pointed out above,
The cost of production.

The driver that delivered a load the other day, said he was buying a new trailer.
$65,000.
Two weeks ago he got a flat on the highway.
$650 to get it back on the road.
Insurance goes up
Permitting goes up
Routine maintenance goes up
Drivers like to get a little more each year, like all of us...
From tree to your house is a lot of steps..If each one goes up a little
one going down a little doesn't amount to much.

Diesel has gone down more than "a little"!
 
Of course there are other factors. And without seeing the books, no one knows for sure.
But I also think common sense comes into play.
Since the begining of the oil price decrease I think most would agree most prices involving shipping have stayed the same or gone up.
One would have to come to the conclusion that the reason prices are not coming down are not due to unexpected shipping cost increases..

Argue all you want a decrease in fuel cost does not equate to a increase in shipping cost.

I got a flat tire, buying a new trailer, insurance going up, etc... really?

I'm not trying to argue the point, it seems you guys know more about this shipping/trucking stuff
than the guys we deal with... so I will bow out of this conversation..
We are all entitled to our opinions.

I'm betting they read Hearth.com and know how many people are going to burn oil this year instead of pellets. They know fewer pellets sold means fewer runs. They are making their money by charging more each run. Thank your friendly oil burner/ex pellet bruner! :)
 
Funny how all we here is food prices etc will rise when gas prices were soaring.....so is it tied??? I think so or people are just
full of it....probably not the entire story, but the sky always falls when gas goes up.

NE is the biggest geo for pellet use in the US. NE doesn't manufacture much of anything anymore so the trucks that haul up here leave with nothing to haul back (dead head run). So you pay through the butt for shipping! Bend over and thank your politicians!
 
I thought I read that somebody was going to StEtson making pellets in the Mohawk valley. I'm not sure if it actually happened though.

Yup.
Which is why often times you cannot get them as quickly as you would like.......
The guys that deliver here, usually get wood, or drywall for the trip back to Canada.
If the number of those trips is less than the number of orders coming down.....
then you may have to wait...
