Trying to research the difference and cannot find anything on their site. What type of wood are they made of and which is better ed or green lettering thanks

I bought a ton last year from a local hardware store. Bag said 100% conifer. Fir,Spruce and Pine make up the conifer family so I guess it,s a blend.They come from Idaho. They burned great for me,good heat and low ash. There supposed to get more this year but I'm trying a different batch of pellets this year. I would buy them again.Never tried the green.
Back in 05' green letter bag's to my understanding came from Idaho and they burned very well for me...However in 08' what I thought was the same product , (blue bag)
that I purchased burned terrible...After some searching I learned bags with blue letters were manufactured in West Virginia. Haven't burned either since and never heard of red letter bags, maybe others can help in that respect...
Just a suggestion, we have burned Somerset's for yrs. and have never been disappointed...Great heat low ash + fines, hopefully they are available in your area.. We have
5 ton's being delivered Sept 10 for $ 233.00 per ton, last yrs. price was $ 222.00...We filled our oil tanks last week $ 1.75 per gal, we use oil for DHW only, we have 550 gal.
capacity and will use it only for that purpose, not home heating...
People in the same situation as myself, I believe should absorb the pellet price increase this yr. to heat their homes vs. the use of oil...My additional cost this yr. to heat with pellets is $ 55.00...This winter or next yr. when oil is back to $ 4.00+ per gal. as we all know it's going to I'll be happy I filled my tanks for $ 1.75 per gal...
I won't have to buy it next yr .but whatever the price of oil is,100 gal. to top off my tanks again that expense would be minimal...Good luck...

Thanks just looking to top off my stash with a decent pellet. I already have 3 tons of blazer and misc bags logike, spruce point and a few bags of okie df. I have heard of Somersets but have not seen them in ma. Will be sure to try they if they surface.

Feeling the Heat
- Keeping in mind that every stove burns pellet brands differently , the green letter liggies are our "go to" pellet....they have consistently burned the best in our stove....since we got our PS50 a little more than 4 full burning seasons ago , we have tried numerous pellets......When we first joined this forum , Somersets were all the rage. We found some in Ohio and made 3 - 75 mile round trips to get 1.5 tons..........they burned a little dirty for us and didn't put out the heat we were hoping for , based on reviews..........Also initially heard all kinds of things about softwood vs. hardwood........tried 1.5 tons of AWF {white pine softwood} and they burned dirty in our stove . If you can burn a single bag or 2 when trying a new pellet before making a bulk purchase , that's the best way to go......
I think a few years ago we were discussing the blue vs green lettering lignetics. The reds are new to me.
Regardless I don`t buy em any more . I always thought they were too ashy and produced a less cleaner burn . That said, I know at least one other local user who loves em.
I always find many brand names just aren`t consistant from one year to the next and why not? They just don`t log the same forest every year.
