Anybody got the Grandberg Alaskan mill for your saw?

I decided to get the small one to cut lumber for my projects around the farm. I managed to get it put together and made my first level cut on a log of pine this evening. Works as advertised but I'm gonna need a ripping chain and something to stack logs on I can see now.

Very nice! I always wanted one of those, doubt my little Poulan could handle that job, though. I love the look of rough cut timbers.
 
I had good luck converting a regular chain to a milling chain. Below is a diagram, but generally I used a bench grinder to grind the wide part off half the teeth to make scorers. So it would go L scorer, R scorer, L cutter, R cutter. Then filed the teeth down to 5 degrees (not zero in the pic). I just did the first maybe half of the tooth and then every time I resharpened I'd get a little more off.

FWIW the milling chain wasn't really any faster, it just cut smoother and left a very nice finish on the boards.

I may just stick with what I got then. I don't mind a rugged finish on what I'll be using them for

How do you like it so far? I am toying around with the idea of getting one like this or something similar, to cut boards for wood working projects. I have a friend a couple of miles away that has a full-blown saw mill, but I have to bring him a minimum 6' log. It would be nice to be able to mill out shorter pieces too.

Hopefully I can tell you more after the weekend. Had a busy week and haven't had time to play with it

Sounds good and look forward to hearing your thoughts after a little time running it. They seem to be well-built and straightforward to use.
