Feeling the Heat

He has several massive Red Maples that have come down on his property. They heat with wood but there is 10 years worth of wood on the ground now and it will rot before he could process it even if he did have storage for it so he told me to have at it. His wood shed is not full so I think I will split a truck load for him and drop it in front of his shed. I don't think I would get his permission to do this but I don't feel right taking his wood without giving something in return.
I think he is particular about the size of the splits, where they get stacked and how it is done so I will just dump a pile in front of his shed after looking at what length and size he has in there. Truth is I really don't need it either but I do have room for it and I don't want to see it rot. What you guys think if someone did this for you?

I think I wish you were my neighbor! All kidding aside if we had more people in this world that was as thoughtful , it would me a much better world.

I think it is a very kind thing to do, you give him some he can burn this upcoming Winter and you get some for the future for your efforts. Even if he is particular about things, I'm sure he will see and appreciate the kindness of your actions!

I'd probably have a heart attack and need to be taken to the nearest hospital (65 miles away)

A selfless act of that magnitude should put you in Saint Hood range! We need more out here like you! Kudo's!

Sounds like a fair deal to me.

I'm sure that even it it's not to his spec, he would be very appreciative to have some additional wood that he can put into his shed. I agree with your line of thinking - it's the right thing to do since he is letting you have a go at all that wood. Very thoughtful of you and I agree with the others - wish there were more like you out there!

I got away with it! My wife and I went over there this morning. They have a small farm and were both busy at their chores. I had my wife distract him while I swiped a split from his wood shed. Now I had something to go by so we went out to one of the smaller piles that he had already been working on. We filled up the truck and on the way out of the woods passed him doing some maintenance on one of the tractor trails. He took a look at the load and said "good looking load you got there" I just smiled and said thanks. When I got up to the wood shed and started unloading I thought we would get away with it but his wife busted us. She squawked a little about how we were supposed to be taking that to our house and then went back to her chores. Below I have the stolen split, which I returned, and the pile that we were cutting from, then last is his wood shed.
