Locust?
 

Yes, that wood is very locusty-looking, and locust is one of the few woods that will age gracefully with most of its BTUs intact at that stage of gray.
 
As folks here will tell you . . . you can't always go by color alone to gauge whether the wood is seasoned or not . . . but that said . . . after my wood has been outside for over a year (sometimes two years) I do like seeing that gray color.
 
That's the only 50 shades of gray I will allow at my house.
 
That is hickory, actually.
 
I think it is sun and rain that cause wood to turn gray. In my stacks the wood that isn't exposed won't turn gray even after three or four years.
