#2 heating oil is the new shoulder pellet.

The P61a has been going since Monday night (on auto).

I try not to turn on the oil heat or have my first burn til Halloween...hope I make it this year.

I would really just like to not have to use my ac or heat for a couple of weeks!

When we had the kids at home, we shot for Oct 1st before turning on the heat. Now, it's Nov 1st if we can.

Broke down and fired the Harman to get the basement up when we had a couple very cool days in August. Daytime highs of 60, no sun and rainy so firing the stove dried the basement out and got the upstairs above 65. September has been pretty nice but long range is for cooler temps next month. Fall is coming with lots of rain that our little area has not had for almost a month.

Of course, in the past week my wife was complaining of feeling chilled and looking longingly at the stove... thermostat said it was 74F in the living room.

With it seeming to skip spring and go straight to hot weather in Ohio this year enjoying the cooler weather now with windows open. I do have an urge to fire it up, but hasn't been chilly enough yet.

Probably won't start pellet burning till Oct. Mostly in those cold mornings when I come down and its only 61 in the house. Full time in Nov.

Apparently you live where it hasn't been getting down in the 30's at night, and is getting above 55 during the day. Or, you are like half the guys I work with, they were shorts and a hoody (what sort of sense does that make?). Heck, I wear my leather jacket and chaps to ride my bike in 75 degree weather (imagine all the clothes I had to put on for my ride to work this morning to stay comfortable at 38 ).Hey, as long as you don't ask me to wear shorts, it's all good (I'm just glad you have something on .

I found the investment of heated chaps and vest with heated grips and seat will get you lots of head shaking while cruising the freeway when the temps are near freezing.

Finally got the gaskets all changed after a breakdown annual cleaning of the stove. Fired it up this am for about 30 min to take the chill out of the house. Works fine. It will run full time once it gets cold.

Nice to get all the maintenance and bugs worked out before the main season is knocking at the door. The Bixby here is in need of some new venting. Its hitting 9 years of use. Corn will probably be used more this season as its about $100 a ton less than pellets.

I hear you - I'll ride in the 20's to work (40 minutes); wear my heated pant liners with lined chaps on top and long underwear as a base. My leather coat is very heavy and has a quilted liner anyway, so just need a sweatshirt underneath. Heated grips with mid weight gloves (my hands are too small to deal with bulky heavy weight or heated gloves). Add a felt neck warmer with leather bandana over it and I can stay fairly comfortable.

In a 48 hours timeframe, I got the heat pump from A/C to heat mode. No such thing as a few weeks of energy savings!

After last winter, I'm in no rush to burn. It'll be here soon enough, why rush? Then it will last 6 months...why rush?

Same here!

No rush here at all. I like fires but I also hate long drawn out cold winters. Some of you pyro freaks need to find new hobbies. LOL! The fire is fun to think about but play that movie thru to January. Then you will have long forgotten the urge.

About the same kind of sense the ladies wearing skirts with sweaters and coats............. Myself I am all about comfort and function.

The long ride I did in '99 May 1st thru the first week of July we rode our bikes ranging from 28 - 30 degrees with about 5-6 inches of snow on Homestead Mountain Pass in MT to 110 - 115 degree heat in the desert all in one long trip. The snow creep with feet down sliding along sucked tremendously. Glacier Park was closed down due to snow that same time. Now I only ride above freezing. Been there done that and still alive to talk about it. I love to ride but I now value comfort and life a bit more.

I'm happy with my outdoor fire pit on cool nights or a fire in the fireplace.

Absolutely! My wife knows it's killing me too. From last night, she was away.

Hey, a lot of time office wear is dictated by the profession and/or dress code. I will never make management because the best I can get myself to adhering to codes is a t-shirt type "blouse" (okay, a t-shirt made by White Stag instead of Haynes - LOL), and pants that aren't blue, so they can't be quite called blue jeans. Heck, I don't even own a dress/skirt since I threw my old wedding dress away (and that was only a sundress that got worn that once). I still wear a sweater because I freeze in air conditioning - always did, even in KS I hated AC when it was 100F out.

I don't ride in snow. Cold yes, snow and/or ice - no way. There are plenty of mornings I don't ride because there is dew on the ground - it may be 36 here, but I go thru a couple of spots that are colder than here and I don't want to chance even a frost covered road.

While I don't have immediate plans to turn it on, I uncapped my vent, removed the damp-rid, plugged the stove in and filled it with pellets. If I wake up one morning shivering, I can now fix it easily by the press of a button on the wall.
