Don't surprise because my local Lowes and home depot don't seem to selling many pellets but they are well stocked.

I just saw on the website that they are 5.29 a bag. Plus 7% off ton. Anyone else notice it.

I bought a ton of prestos yesterday from lowes and they were 260, went today to get another ton and they were 245.

the two closet stores to me have different prices. 5.98 in Danbury and 5.29 in Poughkeepsie.

Must have been a typo. All the pellet market sages have said they'll be no pellet price reductions this year. Seriously, I'm sitting on the sidelines waiting and with oil pricing presently, one can afford to do so.

Im playing the waiting game too. I was lucky enough to score almost 2 ton in the off season. Pais $220 for 98 bags of lg,rocky mountain , okies and maine woods. Prices around boston south shore ar $310 for cubex, lg and lacrete with lowes and home depit at $269 for the ashy stuff

A few HD 's have dropped from $269 to $259 this week so there is no sense ordering a lot as it unnecessarily ties up too much space in my garage. A ton or maybe two will suffice since there is no shortage anywhere I've looked and there is always the oil burner standing by.

HD going from $239 last yr to $269 is just....pure greed!, $259 is still not worth it, and for what Green Suckpreme's....only FSU or ST worth it, they want to sell bring it back to $209 or less as it was 2 yr's ago

Lowes here is 246 for their low pellet, and 297 for the Greene Team.. (with discount)
Depot is 259 for their low pellet, and 299 for Fireside Platinum or Nation's Choice Premium.

Sign at HD says they'll match any advertised price.

For the same brand...

I agree in theory, but since they don't guarantee a brand upon delivery, I'd expect them to match the price of low end "standard" pellets at Loews.

When I priced 6 tons on lowes.com with a 10% coupon with delivery it came to about 235 a ton. Not bad considering what other prices I saw.

My wife got the FSU`s at the Londonderry HD after the price drop @259.00 at the time Hooksett and Manchester were still at the 279.00 mark
There are a lot of pellets around here right now
The nights are just starting to get cold here we will see how fast they sell

They got FSU's in Londonderry? Must be the only HD with any, I wonder if they are leftovers from last year as they were the only HD with FSU's late last season.

I stopped into a mom and pop grocery store in a small town the other day. I. Oticed that last year and again this year, they have four tons of pellets in their parking lot and when sold, the store orders another four tons. Their brand has varied so I checked the pallets and lo and behold, green letter Lignetics priced at $250/ton. Now I ask you, how are they getting around the "higher" prices we see at other places this year? I mean, I read this pellet is selling anywhere from $270 to $290 per ton elsewhere in the Northeast and the store is not losing money selling these pellets and isn't buying in great volume so how are they avoiding the alleged higher transportation costs, higher raw material costs at the mill, higher insurance rates for the truckers, etc, etc? For what it's worth, even at this lower price I noticed that the pellets have been sitting there for some time.

I'm thinking there may be a recalibration on pricing since there is no longer a huge advantage to heating with pellets for most folks. The only long term problem I see is that if pellets aren't moving this year and we get a jump again in oil/propane pricing, are we looking at pellet shortages again? Pellet makers will look for other markets and may not want to rely on NA residential use ... absorbents for the oil fields, electric generations, overseas.

The 5 local lowes by me are way over stocked.

2 weeks ago, they had in stock

A. 3934
B. 3125
C 3690
D. 798
E. 2672

As of today in stock
A. 6211
B. 6312
C. 5195
D. 2798
E. 5212

At 5.29 a bag, and 7% off for a ton. so 246 a ton. But they are all the crappy pellets. Timber heat, nations, green supreme etc.

Less markup, that's why places like Lowes ect.ect. can start lowering prices to try and move pellets.

You are probably right - they aren't trying to support all the taxes and benefits of employees plus all the overhead of corporate offices.

Was at the store again today and asked how come the price is lower than last year. Manager explained the grocer's group they are affiliated with found that the pellet wholesale prices are LOWER this year and she is passing that on to the consumer ($250 vs. $300 last year), FWIW. Glad I waited.
