Okay, I've been webbing this site to death while waiting for my Hampton HI300 insert. I have a 8X13 flue, 35ft chimney with terra cotta tile liner. Dealer says 6" SS liner won't fit with wrap insulation, so better to go with 5.5 " liner and poured insulation. I've read pro & con on poured insulation...but here is the bottom line question I have. Is going with the 5.5" liner and poured insulation going to be seriously affect performance or create a fire hazard in any way? (The dealer says once the poured insulation is set, it will meet zero clearance and everything will be to code) Or would you insist on tearing out terra cotta tiles and installing a liner with wrapped insulation? I am worried about additional cost as the insert and installation is already running me about $4,900 for the whole job! Help!

Break out the flues, use the wrap insulation. You will use so much of the pour down insulation it will cost almost as much as the flue break out.

Why not use an oval liner with the wrap. You get the wrap insulation and keep the flues. At 35' you won't notice any loss in draft.

Does an oval liner with wrapped insulation cost more? Is it more difficult to install than the poured insulation...is this something the dealer should agree to do or would he have some objections for some reason?

Absolutely untrue. In order to meet the zero clearance requirement you would need 1" of insulation all around it. With your liner that is not possible so the requirement cant be met. I would break out the liners and either wrap or pour it
