Hello everyone,

I'm gearing up for another great burning season! The Jotul F55 I installed last year performed excellent, but the one flaw in the whole setup is that it is in the basement and its easy to forget about. Hence, we had a few instances of overfiring the stove last year, one of them rather scary as it produced a glowing red stove pipe. I need a system to remotely monitor my stove top and/or flue temp. I am aware of the various options from Auber Instruments that include sensors and alarms. They look good, but in our modern era it would be ideal to get an alert on my smartphone whenever there is a potential problem. I was wandering around the net and I found this:

http://www.adurofire.com/accessories/aduro-smart-response/?L=1

I had never heard of this company, but it looks like they are based in Denmark and make some slick looking stoves. I don't even see any North America distributors listed on their site. The system they offer includes sensors and a smart phone app. Details on their website are a little lacking and I'm not sure if it will only work with their stoves or if it can be used with any stove. So I'll throw it out there ... anyone with experience with this system? Anyone know how to get one this side of the Atlantic?

Surprised there isn't an app for that yet ... there seems to be one for everything else:)

Best to contact the company directly to see what is available in North America. Checked on the Jotul website for something similar and found ... nothing.

Yes I am surprised too. I know burning is an ancient art, but I for one would appreciate this modern touch. I sent an email to the manufacturer - still waiting for a reply.

Here is the email that their customer service rep sent me today:

"Thank you for your interest in Aduro.

The Aduro Smart Response currently works only with Aduro Stoves series 1, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16.

We do not sell directly to end customers so you could try to get the product via a local importer –who would have to open an account with us- or buy it online from one of our distributors. Thinking about Canada I might suggest to contacthttp://www.fireproductdistribution.com/ our distributor in the UK or any of the distributors in France listed herehttp://www.aduro.fr/revendeur/

Have a good day!

Cordiali saluti/Med venlig hilsen/ Best regards

Germano Pirrone"

I checked out the website for the UK dealer and the product is listed for £139 and they don't even show any shipping options outside the UK. I guess I'm out of luck, although a part of me still wants to get my hands on one of these and see if it can be adapted for my purposes. If anyone wants a viable product idea, I think a simple wifi connected thermometer that you can mount on your stove or stove pipe that would give you temperature alerts on Android and iOS phones would be a seller. Geez, I'd even settle for a traditional stove top thermometer that had a built in high temperature buzzer, but as far as I can tell that doesn't exist either!

Thanks, I was actually aware of the Auber Instruments one. I guess I was thinking along the lines of something more mechanical/analog in that regard. Like one of the standard stove top thermometers that had a bell that would ring if it hit say 700F or something like that. I may end up getting the Auber system, but as my wife says "it sure doesn't look very pretty." Anyone know of a Canadian distributor for Auber? The US site will ship to Canada, but with higher shipping costs.

My wife would have the same response. If I get something like this I will likely put it in a nice wood box or something and mount it low to reduce the look of wire clutter.

That's an Aduro dealer site. Might be worth a shot to see if you couldn't place your order and have them ship it. I've been to England and France so I know that you can just use a Visa or other accepted card and the conversion from pounds to usd happens on the bank's end.

I have a Omega http://www.omega.com wireless data logger that can send a SMS message to a phone when an alarm occurs. It has a thermocouple reading stove top temp.

You could probably achieve the same thing, much cheaper with the Aubrins unit by wiring the remote output to a paging module. I saw one on Ebay that looks like it would work.

The sensors in the above links are not able to read high enough temps, there are K thermocouple boards that can be used with the Arduino type boards.

I fully encourage you gentlemen to pursue this and design a system that works. As for me, I'm no engineer, and I don't have the time to tinker. I'm looking for an off-the-shelf system that will accomplish this. If you are successful, I encourage you to manufacture it and sell it. I'm pretty sure there is a market for this. Most of us have smart phones now, and wouldn't it be great to get a text or message when your stove is getting too warm, or too cool?

An update,

I just received this email from Aduro customer service:

"Dear B,
