Hi Jeff- think you made a good choice too. You didn't consider the Mansfield?? Its a big all soapstone stove but only front loading and around 18" pieces of wood. But I do agree, side loading is a real nicety. Good luck with her.

Thanks and yes, I do like the Mansfield but I kept bumping my price until it was over budget as it was (not sure if you saw the other renovations/construction in the pictures). I also noticed the Jotul f55 and that would have been a nice option for about $800 less than the Manchester. I really like Jotul, but the it takes smaller logs and has a 2 Hr shorter burn time so I would be giving up a bit to go to the j55. Like I said earlier in this thread, there are too many choices. I think/hope my stove will serve me well and I am getting it from a good local dealer.

Too bad you did not ask first. Actual usable firebox size is similar if not more for the F55 as it can be loaded N-S. And manufacturers' burn times are made up in the sales department. There are members here who have had live coals in their F55 24 hours after loading it last. I would surprise me if the Manchester can beat that.

The OP has made a decision. There's no need to beat up on it. Ash can insulate coals. I've had live coals in the ash bucket after 24 hrs. but that is not a mark of stove performance.

As a salesman myself, I find that comment offensive. Lol, I don't trust sales guys much myself. I hear what you are saying though and I can see there are lots of Jotul fans that frequent these forums. Those weren't the only two things I liked better about the Manchester, so I am not too worried about it.

Thats a nice looking stove and at 2.9 cu ft you will easily get all night burns.
Alot of folks really try to get the longest burn time stoves but I think most
people work on 8 to 10 hour cycles best so your new stove will do fine.
Best way to gauge burn time is by the size of the firebox. I could
get 9 hour burns out of a 2.12 cu ft stove I had a couple years ago.
At 3 grams of emissions and 80% efficiency those are really good numbers
so your going to get alot of heat out of your wood.
You will need to cut your wood a little longer as it takes 24" length splits.

I am glad burn time was not the only reason you picked the Manchester. Would have been disappointing to know you spent $800 more just because Hearthstone puts better looking numbers in its sales brochure.

x2 congrats- There are a lot of good stoves out there and that's a good thing..

Curious to know if you have it installed already and how you like it? I am new to wood stoves and have been lurking/learning for quite some time on this forum and realize there are lots of options, but really enjoy the looks of the Hearthstone line. I am also looking to supplement my heat with this stove, but would love to be able to heat all of around 2000 sq ft of our above grade floors. Just looking for your initial thoughts so far, if any. Thanks!

There are a lot of variations in homes, insulation, floor layouts, climate zone, etc.. Maybe start a new thread with your home specifics including the type of floorplan (open or closed off with a lot of doorways), current heating system, which state, etc..

Will do. Thanks!
