Fired up my EKO 25 for the first time last week and I noticed the the temp on the controller was much lower than the readings on the pipe going to the house.
Today I finally had a chance to pop the top off the boiler and found what I suspected, a mouse had made made a nest right on top of the temp. probe. I had slipped the probe out from under the little metal strap since I thought it was reading a little high in the past. Well the mouse chewed on the wires and moved insulation and other fluffy stuff and pushed some under the probe, that's why is was reading so low. Not sure how I didn't pop the pressure/temp relief valve because the pipe going to the house was reading well over 212 while the controller said 160. Glad I just happen to check things and could turn the pump on!

So does anyone else have issues with mice during the off season and what do you do? My boiler is in an outside insulated shed. I don't think I can keep the mice out of the boiler shed, so what are the other options? Mothballs??

We had a barn cat that used to love the boiler room, but she died a couple years ago. When she was around we had no mouse issues!

Concerned that the mothballs will stink. Even if I remove them before firing the boiler up for the first time thinking the smell will soak into the insulation. Maybe the smell will get cooked off after a fire or two??

I hate the smell of moth balls. We had mice issues when we first bought our house. Traps helped, but didn't stop them all. I got a cat and haven't seen one since.

We had a car years back someone had mothballed for mice - That stink was in there 'till we sold it -

Haven't seen a mouse, alive, in eight years now.
