Finally got out to cut. Was anxious to try my chains after I used the Timberline sharpener and was more than pleased.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. So far I'd rather do it manually. I can't dig into the chain like I want to.
I posted about the Timberline awhile back and got lots of good info from other members. It is very simple to set up and use on a new chain. Old chains that have been sharpened by other means is a different story. I had three chains that took me about an hour each to get sharpened with the Timberline. Part of that was most likely from inexperience. I just had to keep hitting each tooth until they were even with respect to the Timberline. I really took my time so you could probably do it much quicker. I only used two of my eight chains today but the chain I used first was the one that took the longest to sharpen with the Timberline and it cut like new. My brother bought one as well and has had really good luck. The other chain I tried was sharpened with one of those Stihl filing systems that has the built in guides. That chain cut really well too. I only cut for about 2 hours and was happy with the results. My wife and son went with me today and helped stack brush and stack the rounds which was a huge help. I have a long tree line to cut this fall/winter so I'm pretty excited. 
That treeline should keep you busy! I had zero luck with sharpening old chains(like you said) so I went and bought a new chain to try it with a fresh start. After the third sharpening, my chain was getting worse. I have no problem sharpening from the inside of the tooth to the outside, but when I go from the outside towards the inside I have to reset the unit. That throws everything off for me. The chain becomes uneven quickly.
I had that issue at first but according to the pamphlet adjusting the middle knob on the Timberline helps with that and it did the trick for me. I'll definitely post back after a few sharpenings.
