2 inches total, hardpacked sleet, crunchy to walk on, completely waterlogged with a hard coating of ice on top... call it glass covered sleet pellets. Snowblower is not up to the task, and it's supposed to be 45 degrees here today... let it melt. I cleared a hole in both sides of the driveway to get onto the street, and that's that.

You can "eyeball" how far from the driveway you need to clear, depends on the situation, snow depth, etc. Any amount you remove from that spot will reduce driveway blockage, but no need to clear a half-mile of ditch. Watching the plows work a few times will give you an idea.
