Add a rim on the top with the center cut out so that the top ring surrounds the pot, and then the escaping heat will be fully directed at the sides of the pot. The result will be another version of a rocket stove. Very good idea.

I'm going to be building this soon. I believe I'll add another rim to the bottom to get it up off the ground a bit.

I think a few holes in the sides of the bottom rim would get more air under the fire and really pump up the efficiency
 
Adding holes in the bottom may defeat the rocket stove design concept. See the picture of my rocket stove in the post above.
 
Back in the day we used two steal barrel lids with spacers to get the up off the snow and then the rim was put on top of the fire to cook on.
 
My daughter calls it "auto corrupt". ;lol
 
Looks like a re-tire-ment project.
