I've had a few night time fires to take the chill out. Calling for it to be in the 20's at night this weekend.

Not yet, it's been a warm October so far. Maybe in a couple weeks.

I was, but right now I'm fiddling with pellet and oil boiler control.
Central heat is pretty nice.

Three or four times so far... just an evening fire tho to take out the chill/dampness from basement. Especially with the frost warnings.

I've "knocked the dust off" the Endeavor twice, just as an excuse to burn. Made up a box of fine pine kindling today to get ready for a few nights in the 40s. Nashville hits 38 Saturday night, so we'll be 3-5 lower on the Plateau. First frost of the season, I'd wager.

I'm trying to hold off 'till November. I generally can't burn unless it's highs in the low 40s and lows in the 30s. Any warmer and the stove is just too much heat. Building a smaller fire in the 30-NC just can't really be done at that point and still put enough of a load in so that it burns right.

We haven't turned the heat on yet. Will have the electric radiators going in the bedrooms overnight by next week probably and the propane furnace going by the end of the week the way the extended forecast looks.

Good to see ya again SlyFerret. A 30-NC early adopter.

My bunch has been ruined by wood heat. The slightest cool snap, and they are gathered around the cold, unlit stove asking, "When is daddy going to build a fire?!" I know, first world problems, right? ;)
You've got them right where you want them Pagey...

LOL, I think it's the exact opposite, truth be told.
My little nephew (2 years old) that the wife babysits, said he was cold this morning. He helped me load up the stove and we fired it up. I sat there on the floor with him for probably an hour, just staring at it. I said I did it for him, but it was for me too. Good stuff.

Looking at some small fires possibly over the next few days. The weather prognosticators are saying lows in the 30's are coming...cannot wait.

Should be some real fires in the east this weekend. Depending on the wind, might even have some full fireboxes in the southeast Sunday AM? At least if you have a poorly insulated home on a windy hill::P

Yeah I try to hold hold out to Thanksgiving every year and never make it. This weekend is first frost warning. Heat may happen.

not yet

but all the windows have been closed for at least a week

First lit the stove august 20 and already shoveled 17" of snow off the driveway here...tourist deason is over.

We will officially have no snow this Winter. I bought a seven foot snow blade this month for the new 35hp diesel tractor. No snow this year.

Poindexter, you definitely get the award for earliest burner!!! August was the only month we didn't have any fires but by mid-September I was burning almost daily in the morning and evening and a couple times all day. But then on September 29th we got on a plane and crossed the Pacific and the Rockies, landing in Colorado Springs for a six month stint, after which we'll return to our mountain top home in Japan where I'm sure I'll light the stove the day I get home!
Meanwhile here in Colorado daytime highs have been in the seventies and eighties (yes, I'm trying to think in Fahrenheit again...) so no heat and lots of open windows. I have yet to see any snow on Pikes Peak but several years ago when we were here the kids went trick or treating in temps that dropped to the teens so you never know! But alas, the closest I'll get to any fires this year is the gas fireplace and even that is more for decorative purposes anyway.

And back in Japan my son and his wife are living in our cabin in Nagano and firing up the newly installed Jotul F500 every night.

I've been burning now for awhile. I cant remember my first day burning but I'm having a fire most nights for several weeks now and burned sporadically in September. I'm not anywhere near poindexter in the snow department or location but we've had some wet flurries and many, many days of frost with the last few days down to -4 c/ 25 f and then warming up nicely during the day. Stove is 3/4 full with larch and fir tonight.

We have had a couple of late night fires to help with morning chill, lows in the mid 40's some days but our highs have been still in the 70's. They are talking low 80's tomorrow. We are still having camp fires in the evening so we are not going to be firing up the Kuma full time for a while.

34* F this morning, got the stove fires up, must say it looks real nice on the new hearth, best of all wife is happy the house is warm ==c
