Got a fire going after work today. Just seems like a lot of fire is going up over the baffle. Is this ok and supposed to be happening?

Yes, looks pretty normal. It will vary with the wood load and air control setting. Is the air control all the way closed or close to it?

No it had been set to half way closed for about 5 minutes. All dead ash that was split and stacked last fall. Fairly small splits trying to take the chill off.

Small splits will outgas quickly. Try closing it down as far as you can until the flames get lazy. That will increase secondary combustion. Then sit back and enjoy the light show.

FIRE! Love the way these stoves burn.

Hooray Fire Movie! Those secondaries look great
