Just received my outside air kit and got half of it installed yesterday on the back of the stove. Right now I'm looking at the best way to run the intake system from the top of the chimney down to the stove. The chimney cap I was given from my dealer is simply a square cap that attaches to the top of the chimney via caulk and is a single direct vent for the exhaust. There are no provisions for an intake system.

Do they make caps with an intake/ exhaust set up or is it a solution I'll have to come up with on my own? Any creative solutions on here? Seems like the simplest thing to do would be drill a hole for my intake but I'm worried about keeping rain and animals out of it. It would also position the exhaust and intake with about 8" of each other.

I'm in the same situation as you, I never used a OAK for 18 yr's on my Whit, unless I drill a 2" hole out my fireplace chimney running a 20+ long hose up the flue may not be a good idea and restrict your stove of air, try running you stove without a OAK, it will run fine

Duravent makes one, but it's quite expensive. I made my own by fabricating a spacer out of square tubing that went between the cap and created a small slot to vent air into the flue chase. Works great and installation looks clean.

I'd really like to get it set up "the right way" with the outside air. Our house was a builder grade ranch built in 1967 and the insulation values reflect that. I would prefer to have the stove pull it's own air source.

Plus I spent the money, waited a week and a half for shipping and have already installed the OAK system. Finding a solution for intake air can't be that difficult, I just wanted to see what others have done in the past.

You wouldn't happen to have any pictures of that set up would you?

Do a search on here for a praire cap. It is set up for both the venting and outside air

Harman makes a vented cap,#1-00-674104. Looks like a nice set up, I'm not using one so I cant say how it works. If I didn't have 2 other flues next to the stove flue I'd probably be using it myself

Yikes....285$-300$ for the cap. Looks nice but I can make something that will work for a fraction of that cost. As it sits my cap is installed, I just don't have any provisions for the OAK kit. That will probably be this weekends project.
