Raises the question in my mind: Who makes up the difference between the lock-in price and the rising cost of oil on the international market? I guess the people like you who didn't jump on board.

When you lock-in with a dealer they base your estimated usage, they purchase the oil on the spot market prior to late September and store it at a facility and is at their reserve. The lock in price, with the carrying costs included for storage makes them a fair <cough> profit and you benefit.

A better way to do it is to pre-purchase the oil during the summer months, some companies will do this for you. You may pay a few cents over the asking because you are paying to store it, but it can mean significant savings and the supplier is still making a fair <cough> profit.

Actually, the distributors work on low margins from what I know, they have a product/service to sell and we as consumers can shop around or stick with the same guy who may be 10-15 cents higher than a competitor.

Usually it all comes out of the same storage facility so there is little or no difference as per the quality.
