I get it...pellet prices and crude oil prices have nothing to do with each other. That said, as much as I love my P68, it simply doesn't make much sense (at least to me) to load the garage up with 6 ton of pellets, when I can get propane for $1.55 per gallon. I don't really know what the math formula is to compute at what price point, burning pellets is a losing proposition. I just suspect that with prices where they are right now, propane is probably quite a bit cheaper, and is FAR less work! Again, I love my P68, but make no mistake, there is work involved, schlepping the bags from the garage to the stove and cleaning it. I planned on heading out this weekend to order my supply for the Winter, but when I called for a propane fill, the price (and yes, I know that it can, and will change) was low enough that it made my decision for me. My P68 is in my family room, so I'll definitely miss the ambiance, and may fire it up every now and again, but I think I'll be sitting this season out, and saving my back!

My lock in price this winter is $1.34, I will also be using less pellets.

I have a tank full of 1.39 propane. I'm starting with that. Will probably burn some corn later, and some pellets from two years ago that I bought for $200 per ton, but I'm not buying any pellets this year, unless prices drop drastically.

$0.89 here. I'm not sure if I am even going to burn wood this year either.

Corn at 3.50/bu is still slightly cheaper than my local propane price of 93 cents/g

The Bixby eats it straight, well mostly as a quart of pellets to a bucket keeps the ash biscuit soft. 50% blend for the Harman with the crosslink

What town are you in? I paid $4.26 a gallon back in Feb and I also pay $100 a year for tank rental. I phoned around back then and the prices were all about the same, have prices dropped that much in MA?

Yeah, I'm guessing at least $3 for me (maybe more since I have Amer*gas ). I am down to about 20% so for safety sake, need to get another 100-150 gallons of propane. I only use it for hot water, if I'm away for a couple of days in the winter, and during coldest months to circulate warm water in the FHW system a couple times a day.

Hot water and dryer for LP for me. 12 months usage 130-150 gallons.. 90% eff. LP FHA furnace also, that rarely gets fired up.

I use the propane just for heating my garage, ~$700 a year (142 gallons a year). Thinking of plumbing in another zone from my pellet boiler. Just called Eastern Propane this morning for prices, $3.84 for usage 101 to 175 gallons, and a bargain $5.04 a gallon for usage 50 to 100 gallons..

OMG - they used to be better than Amer*gas, but I just called AG and ordered 150 gallons and they quoted me $3.22/gal (actually they quoted the price without a # of gallon restriction). Of course, I'll wait until I get the actual bill as the price could go up or they could charge me some sort of extra charge between now and then.

That's absolutely asinine. I agree that LP shouldn't fluctuate like oil, but I find it to be a total scam that when crude oil skyrockets, LP is right there with it!! Yet, oil drops to an all time low, and LP suppliers keep reaping the profits of selling high... For us in NH, the reasonable cost for LP should be right at $2.10-2.29/gal. That would put it in perspective with oil... My neighbor works for Huckleberry heating fuels. Their cost right now for bulk LP is $1.09/gal... WTF...

Much like the airline companies are caught doing, one would suspect some collusion among dealers of propane.

Airlines are reasonable. You can fly cheap most of the time. I flew to Texas and back in March for $238.00. Can't even purchase 80 gallons of LP for that.

It's interesting to see how vastly different the pricing of propane is in the same general area. I use Palmer Gas (out of Southern, NH), and get the benefit of getting "neighborhood pricing", so even though I've used almost no propane over the past two years, I get the same price that all the other houses in my neighborhood gets, as when the neighborhood was built 10 years ago, Palmer put all the tanks in. If I was being quoted $3.00+ per gallon, I'd be back to burning pellets. In the interim, my back in thankful for a Winter off! I was offered a pre-buy at $2.00 per gallon for my propane over the Winter, but opted not to lock in at this point, as I just paid $1.55 yesterday.

I was just quoted 3.299 per gallon in at Sandri in Greenfield, Mass. That's for usage of under 99 gallons. Pretty amazing that people in Mass. are getting it for 1.55 per gallon. Something stinks.

Yep. It's fishy... Less than 50 miles difference, yet almost $2.00/gal more in price......

In eastern ontario canada, 2.17 Imp gal. the P61A will stay off this winter.

It depends on who you call. I own my own 288 gallon tank. I've been quoted as much as $3.29 and paid only $1.57 a gallon from another distributor. Pays to call around. They drove out over 60 miles to sell me 130 gallons at half the price of the guy less than 5 miles away.
