I inherited a few duraflame firelogs along with some real wood from a neighbor that moved away. I know I can't burn the logs in my stove (Jotul non-cat insert) but I was wondering, if I cut them into thin slices (think breakfast sausage patties), is there any reason I couldn't use the slices as firestarters? I love superceders, but they ain't free.

Yes they work fine as firestarters. I use supercedars now, but when i was doibg this i just used a grapefruit spoon (spoon with serrated edges)to dig out a chunk.

If you can find them, get enviro logs, they are wax/cardboard logs. They break apart easily by hand and one log last a long time as starters. Lowe's has them, try to buy them by the singles if you can.
