Hi everyone! New pellet stove insert owner over here. I'm still trying to adjust and get all my settings right, but there is one thing that is really getting on my nerves.

The GFI55 advertises that it holds 55lb of pellets in the hopper (which is great since bags are 40lbs). However when I initially filled it up, it barely fit a full 40lb bag. I pushed and moved all the pellets towards the back to ensure I was fully loaded.

It's a pain since I didn't want to leave half or quarter filled bags hanging out by the atoce. That's one of the reasons I got the 55.

Any input? Am I over thinking this and is this just normal? What schedule does everyone else follow?

I have 40lb bags of Blackstone pellets:
<1% ash
8,000 btu/lb
<.05% fines
<6% moisture

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to deceptive advertising. My CB1200 is advertised to hold 80 lbs (which would normally be 2 bags). From empty I could maybe get 1 1/2 bags. Guess it depends on the weight of the pellets you are using.
My advise: accept it and enjoy the heat.

My castile insert doesn't hold its advertised amount either, maybe if you force it in, but then you run the risk of auger jams!

Unless you're standing there at 2:00 AM when your stove gets to the point where it will hold another full bag, you're just going to have to accept having some portion of a bag left over after filling the stove. I fill the stove before I go to work, again when I get home, and again before I go to bed. I have a container nearby that I dump the bags into, then use a large colander to move the pellets from the container into the stove.

Depends on the density of the pellets. I can squeeze 1.5 bags of country boy white lightening hardwood pellets into my stoves hopper but I can barely get over 1 bag of Greene supreme.

Seems many stove manufacturers overstate their products pellet capacity. In my case my stove is small anyway so I fill the hopper, then pour the rest of the bag into a coal scuttle which I keep next to the stove - problem solved.

I usually get close to 55lb, (a bag and some extra from another bag. I always have to push the pellets to the back. I usually do it 2-3 times to get it completely full. Its a pain, but it does work and its better than being cold at 5am! :)

When I burned Blackstone pellets last year, they were not very dense. The bags were 1.5 times larger than any of the other pellets I had on hand. I even weighed them to make sure they were 40 lbs since the bags looked so big (they were 40lbs.)
