Title says it all. while operating the stove, I hear "tings" or what sounds like something hitting the inside of the stove. It's not very loud and seems to settle out once the stove is up to temp and cruising and towards the end of the burn. Is this just the sound of the metal parts expanding from the heat? Is this normal or an indication that I'm going from cold to too hot too fast? Or is it just particulates bouncing off the inside of the stove and liner?

Ok thanks. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't getting it too hot too fast and risking a major crack in the iron or seams. Last night the stove temp was 65F when cold and I ran it wide open to the upper 300's and began the slow damping down process. It never got hotter than 480 and about 460 was the cruising temp. That kind of start up isn't too hard on the stove is it?

My parents have a 35 year old VC Defiant Encore in their lake house, and they frequently take it from 35F to 650+ when they get up to the house for the weekend, and that cast iron behemoth is still tight at the seams. I have a steel stove that regularly sees 700-750F on the stovetop within 30-40 minutes of a cold start. These stoves can handle a lot as long as you don't abuse them.

If you have particulates that big coming off your wood you might want to get a military spec stove
