I have been buying the $35 yellow one, runs on a single nine volt battery, MIC, "no user serviceable parts inside".

My best one lasted a year, I have returned one DOA, generally they last me three months or so.

Since I was going to throw this one away too, I decided to open in up and see what failed since there were "no user serviceable parts inside."

First I pulled the battery and licked it, plenty of juice. Then I pulled the six wee tiny #1 phillips screws holding the case together. Took the cap off the pins, pulled the case halves apart, one more wee screw so I could see the solder joint side of the printed circuit board.

I pulled off my glasses, turned on all three work bench lights, everything looked OK. So I hooked the battery back up, low and behold the thing was working.

I re-assembled it without the buttons over the switches, it's working fine and giving believable numbers. I do need a wee tool to reach down in the hole is all.

It ain't broke until it's been thoroughly disected and examined post mortem. Nothing is dead until the autopsy is complete in my book.

What can I do? Break it worse?

I too had to re attach the wires. They are very flimsy.

Nothing to lose taking it apart. Way to go!

Should take the money you saved in not having to buy a new one, & get a multimeter. Then you won't have to lick batteries anymore. Unless you get a charge out of that kind of thing...
