Found one on CL for $1000 and wondering if these are good stoves. Had plans to buy a new pellet stove but those have seemed to vanished. It's one town over and the guy is willing to deliver it :) Just need to get a lid for it
 
I've got one and its an awesome stove. I paid $5000 for mine brand new. I'm now starting my 6th heating season with it and it hasn't given me a moment's trouble. Provided that the stove was properly maintained, I think it's a great deal.

I ran a Hastings last winter and it did well for me (see my sig for year). 1k sounds like a good deal, I sold mine for more than that (actually made money selling the Hastings and getting the P43). The only reason I even thought of another stove was I couldn't get a hopper extension for it and if I wanted to go out after work, I couldn't because I had to get home and feed the stove (only in the deepest of winter, and I work long days).

If you get it, make sure to clean out behind all the ash traps (there are 3).
 
x3 Beautiful stove, great heater. Has a true unique look in its thinner, taller design.

According to the seller it was cleaned but going to go over it it with a fine toothed comb before installed. Not to concerned with the hopper being small as I'm a stay at home dad. If i was gone for a long time my wife or kids can keep it full. We like the look of the stove also as it's in our living room and wish we could have a wood stove(miss my Hearthstone) but landlord wouldn't allow plus the piping for a pellet is already installed. Sure be happy to turn off the electric heat we have our heat source. Thanks for the replies and help as always

you should still be able to do a test burn in the driveway if you hold or tape down the lid switch (if the st croix uses a switch)
if the guy is willing to deliver knowing the stove will have to operate on arrival, that's a good sign.

i'm not sure how familiar you are with pellet stoves, but it has to not only fire up, but then get hot enough to start the feed process and sustain the burn after start up.

with the venting in place, you seem to be sitting pretty.
you'll need a floor pad. either just non flammable or thermally rated depending on what the hastings requires.
you can get non flammable ones for well under $100, (i think ours was around $69) but it sounds like you may want something that looks nicer.

Yes, there's a switch on the hopper lid.

St_Earl, we have a awesome fieldstone fireplace that has a hearth pad big enough to fit the stove. Original homeowner built it with rocks from property I'm guessing back in the 30's.

bcarton, thanks for the parts list. I was calling local dealer this AM to find out how much the parts I need will be and part #'s should make it easier

Looks to be about a bit over $300 for top,lid and hinges plus shipping to get what I need. Still a good deal if everything else checks out

Went and looked at the stove yesterday and passed on it. Found out once I got there the controller was missing as well so couldn't even test the stove. That's $200 added to the $300 in other parts. Also it was "professionally" cleaned but had ash in ash pan and pellets all over the place on stove. I'd think those would be vacuumed up with the cleaning of stove.

He tells you it needs a lid, but doesn't tell you about the all important controller? big Red flag there. And professionally cleaned when? Maybe 6 months after it was bought then never again?

Good call on passing on it.
 
Well, at least you only drove one town over to look at a $1000 pellet bucket.
