I started my new Harman xxv two weeks ago on auto since at this time of the year the outside temp varies greatly. Twice so far it went out at night with 5 blinks on the status light and several times it had 5 blinks but working and lighting itself perfectly. The first time that it went out was on the second night that I had started it. My question is, could it be the draft? I cleaned out the burnpot and the area below the burnpot (which was clean anyway). Should I just use it manually and on constant burn? It seems to work great other than this problem.

Taken from your manual:

5 Blinks (In Igniter Auto. Mode Only):
Indicates that the unit has failed to light within the 36 minute start cycle.
To reset -Turn Mode Selector to "OFF", then turn to either mode again.)

In my opinion, I think the pellet ash is blocking the air holes in the burnpot. What kind of pellets are you using? Also what is your feed rate set to?

My parents have this same stove and was installed last year. They got a ton of Nations Choice ( I know, told them not to but didn't listen). Anyway the stove would light (Room Temp/Auto). Once the temperature was reached it would shut off. When it tried to re-light, they were getting the same 5 blink. Their Feed was set to 4, had them turn it to 3. Fixed the issue. My theory was that since the feed rate was set too high for these ashy pellets, the air holes were blocked, in which the stove couldn't relight (would only work once they turned it off/on).

The feed rate is now set on 4 and the fire and ash is about 1 to 2 inches from the edge. I will now set it at 3.5 and see what that does. I also called the seller since it's still under warranty. I'll post the results after it is serviced.

You could run the stove in stove temp (constant) mode. You would not have a problem with that.

Its the ash covering the burn pot holes after it turns off. No airway, no fire =)
