Man, I would love to have the option of a NG fireplace. But I choose to live where I live for a reason.
I just got lucky. I'm out in nowhere, but they ran gas and water down my road. Farms out here made it profitable.

I'm sitting back waiting to see how this pans out. I know a lot of people that used there pellet stove instead of paying high oil prices. Of course now oil is cheap and most will burn oil instead. Also around here the heat pump has become the big fade right now,. And a lot of people have installed them this year. I already bought my pellets in the spring. But I am hoping pellet places get stuck storing tons of pellets. They will have to start dropping the prices or people will just switch to other means of cheaper heating. Just my .02 cents. ;-)

I'm sitting on my 3 tons that were purchased 2 years ago for use this year. Will probably use oil except during really cold weather.

Will add to stash if prices drop down to the $209 area.

118.26 gal of fuel oil x 115,000 Btu/gal = 13.6 million Btu = one ton of wood pellets...From my standpoint (I usually burn 12 tons in my boiler) its a "no brainer" Oil is $2.15/gallon...118.26 X $2.15 =$254.25...less then pellets and next to NO work . And with the cost of fuel down why are pellet prices on the rise? We need to let them sit at the stores...Just saying
yeah the pellet people are gonna price them self out of business

unfortunately that just may happen. It will be a sorry day too. When I first started burning pellets $209 was a common price. Every year the price rose only because demand rose. I see a bleak future for pellets. Big chain stores (HD, wally world, lowes) will get hurt when they have to sell for less then they paid (to make room for summer goods)... Mom and pops stores will also get hurt. None of this is good cuz I expect some will stop stocking pellets....Not a good thing...
Anyway, the chips will fall where they may...I cant see any logic in my case to spend the labor or money to burn pellets this year. If and only if pellets drop to a reasonable price will I stockpile some. I'm certainly not Nostradamus, but to think oil prices will not rebound to prices we have never seen( I fully expect $5.00+/gal) and I personally cant wait!!! At the moment I purchase in excess of 1000 gallons a week for my truck. price goes up...truckers go under...

The double whammy is the low price of oil/gas and the mild weather that the best forecaster here in our area is calling for through December. Gonna be some people in the pellet business getting bit and then supply will go down and prices through the roof the next time around.

very true brother,,,,I don't see good things on the horizon for pellets...Like I said, I see a major dip toward spring...(more then likely my last hurrah for pellets) then a spike in prices like none we have seen. If I can get one more season out of my PB 105( now discontinued)<> I will switch to a gasification boiler with storage...Im gonna miss the ability of going over a month with out tending my boiler.... Although I never have, I could cuz it can hold almost a ton of pellets!! !!!
