I have a company installing my pellet insert .. They have the unit sitting on 2 bricks in the fireplace .. Is that normal?

I would take a good look at the installation manual. You may be fine, but you may not be. There should be a minimum R value which you need to meet for what the stove is sitting on and minimum distances to combustibles.

Some pictures and information on the stove may help you get a better answer from other members

Is that normal

I for one wouldn't be happy if I paid for that..just me.

I would have to agree with John. I would question the installers on that set up

Mine is sitting on landscaping stones I found. I put the stones in the back of the firebox where the corners of the frame were and then put some 1/4 sheet metal under the legs to distribute the weight.

If it were a pro that installed it I would say it absolutely looks hokey. But my stove is installed and working great and the frame is very sturdy inside the firebox.

I would say its not normally done- is the fireplace inset from the opening to need to make up that much height?? Or is it being done to close off the opening with the surround?? If the insert at the opening looks normal and you don't notice the brick, it won't hurt anything..

It just to support the back.. When the insert is pushed in everything looks fine.

Let me ask this, if the bricks look "hokey" then what is correct? How do you guys support the back of the unit ?

Were there levelers to raise the height at the rear on the stove frame?? If not, something non combustible (like was used) is usually the answer. Nothing really wrong with it, if its solid and supportive. No one but you will know they are there if it looks normal in front....

Mine just level the rear of the frame. I had about 3/4" drop from my hearth to the actual fire box where the frame sits. I tried leveling the entire surface with duraroc that someone on here suggested but it made installation much harder. I removed it and now just have landscape pavers I mentioned. They were free, heat resistant and worked. You can't see them unless the entire unit is pulled out so I was indifferent to them

Besides eng5ive using pavers... Can everyone else tell me what they have in the back of their setup please?

I don't know but to me it looks like the bricks are being used as spacers for the frame not to go back any further, like front to back. My insert has somewhat long bolts that screw into the insert frame from the bottom so it supports the frame and also allows some adjustment for it being leveled. If the bricks are there to keep the frame from going backwards any more I would say your go to go and not shoddy work. There is a lot of pressure on a inserts frame while trying to move it in/out.

seeing bricks there just seems like a painter came in and said "sure I'll install your insert for you" but then again what do I know... First time pellet user (as of yesterday)

Looked like spacers to prevent it from sliding back to me, as well. Would personally have no issue with it as you can't see it, it appears structurally sound, and it's noncombustible.
