best way to mount wood mantel and corbels?

got the new fireplace being installed tomorrow. after that, i will need to mount my mantel and corbels.

we have an existing old growth doug fir 4x12 mantel that we really like and that was on the previous fireplace. i'm going to make my own corbels, also out of doug fir, likely to match one of the following three styles:

i'm thinking of using the "slide over bolts" method shown in this link:

i would likely preattach (glue and screw) the corbels to the mantel. then, slide the whole unit into place onto the bolts secured into the wall studs.

good idea?

are there better ideas?
