Dolmar-Chainsaw?

Not an expert but Dolmar's are pretty well thought of. Lot of pro features. Same as Makita.

Saks dolmar is owned by makita and they are going thru something where they are gonna drop their dolmar name and use the makita name for brand recognition and dealer support.

I can't say that I know a lot but I have a makita 6421 which is a dolmar but in blue. These are pro level saws. I'm not sure which are pro and which aren't but they are great saws that unfortunately lack dealer support. I'd recommend them.

Better? Have to compare saw to saw but I think Dolmar offers a lot of value.

Better than the cheaper Husqvarnas for sure, but similar in quality to the professional-grade Huskies. Husky and Stihl each have inexpensive and professional lineups, but Dolmar doesn't make any "homeowner" models. Dolmar/Makita makes excellent equipment at good prices. The only downside is that there are relatively few dealerships, so getting service locally can be dicey.

I say dolmar are professional saws at least most of them are. My father in law cuts timber thats what he uses on a daily basis. I think they are the best bang for the buck in performance and overall quality. Price husky and stihl pro saws and then price a dolmar in the same cc range.

As others have stated, Dolmar is quality German OPE maker with many chainsaws on par with Stihl or Husqvarna. Alghough they have been a division of Makita since the early 1990s, my understanding is that their manufacturing facilities are still in Germany. I'm very happy to own a Dolmar 7900.

Dolmar's are great saws. I'd say they are better than the cheap Stihl and Husky, comparable to the Husky pro saws, but not as good as the Stihl pro saws.

I own 3 of them, and they are a great bang for the buck. I like the ergonomics of them, and they are a couple of hundred less than a comparable pro Stihl. Good saws.

Just my opinion. I have 2 very good Stihl pro saws, the 361 which is legendary and often considered one of the best Stihl made, and a 660 with a 32" bar. 2 of my Dolmar's I purchased new, and I really like them, but they aren't quite the quality of the top of the line Stihls. I won't bore you with the reasons why, but my Stihl's have been exceptional.

I've tore these saws apart, and I think that Stihl magnum/pro saws are the best there is. But Dolmar/Makita saws are excellent, and I use them all the time.

I have a stihl 441, stihl 031av and a dolmar ps421. The dolmar is by far the better starting one of the bunch. 2 pulls and its running. I have run the dolmar 6100, 6400, 7300, and 7900. They seem to take fewer pulls to start. Im not saying i dont like my stihls at all cause i love my 441.

I think part of the reason that you've never heard of them is the same reason they are priced lower than the competition. They don't spend a ton of money on marketing, but instead rely on their reputation with professional users. The sparse dealer network is an issue, especially if you don't work on your own stuff.

I'm interested to see how the whole Makita thing works out. I had hard time selling my 6401 on Craigslist here. The usual response was 'I didn't know Makita made chainsaws. But I'll give you a hundred bucks for it.' But then people will go pay $3-350 for an MS 290 or 029 everyday.

Ford/Chevy/Dodge. Buy what you like, they're all good.

I love my Dolmar 6400 almost as much as my Jonsered... and my friends love it too...

A pro grade 64cc 4.7hp saw for UNDER $600...

Modify to 79cc 5.7hp w/ high flow filter for only $250 more...

buy the 7900 xd save $200 over husky and stihl... and get it ported

Of all the saws I own the Dolmar PS-421 gets the most surprising reactions from my buddies that try it. Probably the best new saw you can buy under $350. Easy to start and good power for its size. The other German saw that is comparable to it costs almost 2X as much.

I bought a Dolmar 5105 about a year ago. It can be a bit tricky to start cold, but otherwise it's a great saw. If it pops once, get the choke off.

I have a dolmar ps421 and love it. I was thinging about the 5105. Seems like a nice saw when i went and looked at one. Just wanted someones opinion it.

We considered a Dolmar but when I seen the prices recently we decided to go with the Echo CS-590 for $330. on sale.

We have a Dolmar string trimmer MS-22C, it's actually made by Robin, but it's been great and one of the lightest pro rated trimmer ever made. They had to quit selling them due to it not meeting the emissions stds.

Im not knocking echo at all and have never been around one. But a dolmar is about the best price for the grade of saw you get. Thata just my opinion
