The glass cracked on my Regency F2400 and I am taking the door in tomorrow morning. Problem is, they need 24 hrs to get it back to me. Our overnight lows will be about -1C (30F). So I mulled running the stove with the door off and a screen or some other way to block the sparks. Anyone have any other suggestions?. I only have a 500 watt baseboard heater and have not run that in about fifteen years, and It's under the north window, so I don't know how effective it would be. And I'm cheap. My other option is to run a 3800 catalytic propane heater I have for camping. I'm heating about 1000sq feet. I know deep down I should just run that and a 1500 watt ceramic and get over my self, but I am feeling a bit McGiver now

So my preferred solution is to run the stove with some spark screen.

Not all stoves are created equal in this department. Some (like the Isle Royale) has this as an option. Many do not. If there is no screen option from the factory for your stove, it probably wasn't designed to burn that way.

Run the ceramic heater. 24 hrs isn't going to break the bank.

I would agree run the heater. On a unrelated note, you live in a pretty unusual location. I would love to hear about what it is like to live there. Also, what is your winter weather like?

I opt for running the space heater . . . and fixing the glass yourself (since you will get it back up and running sooner and cheaper.)

Winter does not really start until last week of December. Temps run about -7c for daytime highs in Mid Feb. Last winter was winter from hell, 550 cms of snow... Unbelievable

I got a quote, 24 hrs turnaround. 77 for glass, 20 labour and 10 for new gasket. So for that price, I will run the electric heater. I did get the inside to +27C this am around 5am before letting fire die out and popping door off at 8:30.

thanks all
