Augusta Fuel just delivered this morning for $1.79 a gal. Pellets have to get under $200 a ton for me to want to start up the stove.

Here oil is $1.95 a gallon and I haven't checked HD but Tractor Supply is $5.39 a bag per 1 ton order of what ever pellet they have in stock right now. So $269 a ton for a crap shoot in pellet quality. The oil is quieter than my P61, less dust, less work and more even heat. And I have pending ( scoped) knee surgery for tomorrow ( Thurs Nov 12). Right now pellets are off my radar. I see the lower oil price as a perfect provision, exactly suited to my needs, that comes with perfect timing. LOL ! If we want a glow in the house, we can turn the lights down with the dimmer switch or my wife can pick up a couple of bags of pellets and we can fire the stove off, bringing in a smaller container of pellets at a time. So far the stove has not been fired this season and it probably won't be for some time to come.. I believe this knee has a 6+ week healing process assuming all goes well.

Also, heard a news source saying that with OPEC's newest strategy, oil / gas prices will most likely lock in around $50 a barrel right through the year 2020. They are trying to knock the "shale industry" out of play.

Saudi can't keep that low of oil for long as it will weaken the ruling power and be ripe for the masses to uprise if they loose all the benefits of the oil money. They are already cancelling goods ordered from around the world.
Sure don't mind the cheaper gas at the pumps as I lost the cheap to drive dog hauler and have to use the vehicles that get third or better less mileage.

They want me to schedule PT for two weeks after the surgery. They tell me I will walk out of the hospital tomorrow without crutches. This I have to live to believe !! Maybe things really have progressed that far since my last cartilage surgery, don't know. Ha, so far I don't have a surgery time though, they haven't called yet.

I had double knee surgery many years ago and walked out next day and was motorcycling three days latter. Same surgeon that worked on Viking football players

My last was about 38 years ago. That guy was x Patriots Surgeon. How funny is that. Hes long retired now. But my son had cartilage removed a couple years ago and went home the same day but with crutches. This surgery is to get a small piece left behind from that surgery years ago.

The PT is to get the muscles retrained from when you were limping etc. Mother had hip surgery year ago and found out how many muscles were out of shape. No issues now what so ever.

I'm literally watching the muscle disappear in this leg as the weeks go by !! i can see it, it's like skin and bone compared to the other leg. August i was riding bicycle for exercise as I do all the time. Then we had a big wedding in the yard here and i was on my feet for days all day. That knee got sore and I thought it will go away in a couple of days. Ya right, now we are headed into surgery. It just got worse and worse. Can barely move my leg at night and so really favor it and the muscle is going away fast. The worst thing is the medical has taken all this time, what used to take three days now takes three months and then they don't call with a time. Pretty poor service. Not that I'm here to rant. They have great procedures today not available then but time consuming intervals.

This type of prediction is worthless for many reasons, but the biggest is volatility in the middle East. One real/perceived threat to the oil flow and all bets are off. BTW, the Saudis benefit from continued turmoil in the region. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they were funding Isis to keep the tension level up.

When is the Middle East not volatile? Oil has been somewhat steady through three wars over there and constant skirmishes and turmoil. Nothing really new there. I rank that worry right up withe the other oft-used cliche of "it's an election year and as soon as the election is over, the prices will rise again." What's great about the present environment is there is no "sky is falling" mantra from pellet sellers to get you to rush out and buy whatever you can find at whatever price they are selling them for like what happened last heating season. There is plenty of supply for most brands and alternatives to pellets are MUCH cheaper this year and the winter is starting out mild in most places, all good for us pellet stove owners. I certainly don't begrudge vendors for charging what they think they can sell this commodity for, that's capitalism. As consumers, we are not required to buy their product and if the market system works, this will eventually affect prices. Now, as long as we don't get hit by an asteroid......

Two points:
1. The game has changed since 2004 or so when China/India became significant consumers.
2. The turmoil is there, but the volatility has been contained by Saudi overproduction and our demonstrated willingness to intervene when oil fields are threatened. We sat on our hands when city after city fell to Isis. As soon as they got even close to Erbil we tripped over ourselves to get the bombers up in the air.

Nymex crude closed a little over $40 today. Will check on propain price tomorrow when I get gas for the chainsaw.
Down to $1.58 here in the New Haven, CT area. Just about everyone I know around here that burns pellets is just turning up the t-stat with these prices. Home Depot and Lowes still asking for $259 a ton around here.

Yeah, I lost my Jeep Patriot which got 28 mpg and am now driving a very old Explorer that I'm pretty sure will be lucky to get 15 MPG. Since I drive 60 miles / day minimum, just to/from work, I am hoping for the cheap gas to stay for a while. Hoping to find a transmission for the Patriot at some point, but the year/combination I have is very rare so it will be months - or I'll have to win a 2nd tier lottery prize just to afford a new tranny

This is crazy! We are in CT but not even close to those prices. Still paying over $2 a gallon. I think about $2.30 when I checked a few weeks ago. I'm going to check again tomorrow

Bought me some $1.85 gasoline today. First time I have completely filled that 42 gallon tank in the Suburban in years. Now that the U.S. is producing almost as crude as Saudi Arabia, instead of half as much 10 years ago, the rumbles in the World have less of an effect.

I'm hoping the price of oil is still low when it comes time to refill the tank. Still running the wood insert though and that slows the oil use.
