Ok, sorry it's taken so long for a reply. I emailed Sandy Thursday, she said the pellets tested fine and attached an analysis of the test. I do not possess the smarts to make sense of it. I was able to exchange 10 pallets for an older lot# of Somersets. These are the lighter colored pellets that I am use to seeing from Somerset. My ash count is back to normal, very low, and my heat output is back to normal, very high, all is good. Not sure what the difference is, but I believe in sets and will probably be burning them next year. I'll just be sure to find the good lot# and buy 22 pallets of those ones. Thanks.
Curt: Thank you for the time, that you have spent with Somerset Pellets. You did get their attention, with the quantity that your group
handled. This alone will help all of us that use their pellets, and some reading this may even call them, just to make sure this does not
go without attention from our members.
Second, you sure do have a great supplier for the sets.
Good luck this season

There is no air control on quads. I think I got a bad batch of somersets according to what everyone says about these. The last month I've been testing pellets. I did 2 bags of Michigan wood fuels (horrible), 2 bags of stove chow (mediocre), 3 bags of Pro Pellets (pretty good), 3 bags of Uncle Jed's ( pretty good ), 3 bags of Kirtlands (excellent) and 3 bags of somersets ( not good ).

I cleaned between each brand and ran each on high and only changed the feed rate if needed to have correct fire height. Don't know what to tell you Edward...they just were not good pellets compared to the rest. I expected them to be the best so I saved them until last.
Hello Jonkman:
I apologize, for being so quick, to defend the Sets, without seeing that you live in the West Michigan area, where there are
some bad sets around.
You may want to call Sandy 877 404 9663 or 606 678 2842 and let her know you are having the same problem, as curttheqreat
here on forum.
Good Luck

To me, they smell like swamp... lots of ash too.

Please post lot numbers of "bad" pellets please.

What I call lot# is Somersets date code. The pellets in question had a date code of 238 on the pallets, which means the 238th day of the year, August 26. The supplier swapped us out with a 100 something date code, so around May-June date I'd guess.

I just bought a ton of Somersets and they are very light brown and produce very little ash. I saw no date code that you guys are talking about. Just wrapped in plastic.

Hi Edward,

No problem on the defense of the somersets, from what I read, they are some of the best pellets out there, so I am chalking it up to I got a few bad bags. Unfortunately I can't check the date code because I only had three bags and I didn't save them, and the trash man already came...I picked them up from Mulch Pro in Zeeland Michigan. I think I might pick up a few more bags from a different seller and see how it goes...

Here's what the date code looks like.
