Mt. Vernon AE Insert Install

I am in the process of purchasing an AE insert and trying to get it installed. I have had some ridiculous quotes for installs. More than $2000! I currently have a wood fireplace that is going to be yanked out. It goes into a 8" or 10" Heatilator metal chimney. Do i need to run 4" reline up my entire chimney, or can it just exhaust into the chimney naturally?

I was told that if the combustion gases leave the stove and go into an area larger than 4" pipe, that the stove won't burn correctly. Any suggestions, because it doesn't seem right to me.

Any suggestions?

You can go into an 8" pipe, but you will need to plug the bottom where your chimney from stove goes into it. I am also assuming that the 8 or 10" chimney is double walled? You won't want to seal it with anything you can't remove later as you will get an ash buildup in there eventually, and need to clean it. You will also have to run an outside air kit. Either straight out the back, or up the chimney all the way. Check out Quads website on AE insert stoves for pics or vids on chimneys. kap

When you get the install done, insist on an outside air source for combustion.
The quote you got doesn't seem out of line. It depends on the installation details. My install took two men more than a day to complete (and they weren't sitting on their hands).
